Oh yeah, Boundaries are important. Unfortunately they dont speak english, so sometimes we need to speak their language to get the point across.
A smack from us is NOTHING to a horse.
BUT, timing of said smack is absolutely crucial for it to be effective.

I know he isnt for everyone, but Clinton Andersons methods work well.
However, they did not on my skittish mar i mentioned earlier.

Good work, Keep at it,
I have a mare her who is similar, Not nasty, but very timid and skittish of other people. She was abused and is driven by fear. I've never had a horse like it!
It actually took me years to be able to catch her in the paddock. I trim her feet gently when she needs.
She will always be this way.
