Don't know anything about him or his past when I bought him. His leg is swollen, it isn't hot, he doesn't favor it and it doesn't seem to hurt. http://funkyimg.com/i/2FuMs.jpg http://funkyimg.com/i/2FuMr.jpg Plan on visiting the vet, this week they are out of town. Hoping to get him to one by next week. Edited at April 27, 2018 04:57 PM by Celestrial Elites

Not entirely for sure but I might have a lead on what it is, won't know until we finally get a vet to see him. He does have a old scabbed wound on his ankle, which isn't big at all. Hoping its nothing serious.

I'm not sure what it is, but I hope he is better soon!

He might have pulled a muscle? Has he ever done anything serious enough to break that leg? My stud has a "funny" leg that's got a ?bone spur? on the ankle. Doesn't affect him at all, but looks swollen and weird. Might be the same thing. Hope he gets better soon! <3

A pulled muscle would not cause this kind of swelling... a pulled muscle would also probably show up as lameness. A bone spur would not cause that kind of swelling either.
This swelling could be many things, but common causes are stocking up and cellulitis. Cellulitis is even more probable since he has that old scabbed wound. A vet visit would be the best course of action to take, so that's great you're taking him!

Yes. It does resemble cellulitis. Horses with the feathering like that (mainly drafts) are much more prone to getting it. (its actually pretty common)
Really needs to be seen by a vet to determine if it is.
Cellulitis needs to be treated ASAP. It can cause some serious damage It's basically a bacterial infection in the soft tissues which causes large amounts of swelling like that.

We thought it might be stocking up, he is in a smaller fence, but big enough for him to run around & do whatever in but he isn't turned loose with the other horses yet. They don't get along too well from across the fence. When it rains, their areas get muddy. The majority of the day he stands in one place, unless he is eating off of his round bale or in the barn. So yes, he is very inactive during the day. Hoping to get him in the vet soon, just depends on when they get back into town & when they'll see him. Thank you guys :) We also have cellulitis in mind... Hoping that it is nothing all too bad.
