So my family member in AZ wants me to come visit her and I love her and all and of course I want to visit. The thing is I haven't seen her in over a year and in that time I got a horse on accident 😂 I've had him for a year and I haven't told her, she just knows that I've been working at a barn I don't think she'll approve of my horse for a multitude of reasons Is there some way that you guys know to tell her with a best possible outcome or just avoid that convo entirely? I'm not sure 🥲 Edited at November 7, 2023 04:24 PM by Lucky Ranch

why wouldnt she approve? honestly if its that bad just tell her that your like partially sharing the horse with your trainer or something like that. My aunt was fixated for some reason on me never owning a horse and i just told her that he was my friend/trainers horse and that he just let me ride him lol

Why does it matter if she approves or not? She's not the one footing the bill. Just be casual about it- "oh, here's a pic of my horse :)". Sidenote- I never told my mom I got a second horse. I just moved barns a few times and she realized he was at every single barn I moved to and she called me out on it lmao. We're on good terms now

I value our relationship she can just be petty on occasion? Bring up the 'what else aren't you telling me' or 'life would be easier without that horse' things like that Yeah I might just bring it up casually LOL 😂 Puck thats amazing 'oh he's just a mascot for a bunch of barns 😅' Edited at June 19, 2022 01:39 PM by Lucky Ranch

I totally get where you are coming from. I would just nicely say, "I appreciate that you are interested in my life, but I don't want to talk about my horse." If she keeps asking or bothering you about it just keep repeating that. People get the message really quick. ;) Also, don't feel guilty about setting that boundary. You are not responsible for her feelings and it sounds like there is plenty of other things you can talk about together. Edited at June 19, 2022 05:45 PM by Silver Isle Eventing
