Caleb pulled into the fairground's dirt driveway. He sighed, checking his phone for any notifications. None. He maneuvered around the trailers already there, hoping he wasn't jostling Splash too much. He checked the trailer cam, double checking she was okay for the hundreth time this trip. Caleb parked in a large spot with room for the trailer's awning. He got out, slamming the old truck's door closed. His dad and him had built the truck from the ground up, buying parts and welding it together piece by piece. Caleb walked the length of the rig to the back of the gooseneck trailer, unlocking and opening the doors. He walked in, gently untying the paint mare and leading her out to the grass. Splash greedily dipped her head down, trying to get a few blades eaten. She snorted when Caleb pulled her head up and tied her to a ring on the side of the trailer. Caleb walked back into the trailer, grabbed a haynet, and hung it next to Splash.

Cass slammed the door shut to her dad's pick up. They'd parked and the whole family got out. Cass took hold of her sister's hand, who was 4. She was wearing a cute ditsy yellow dress with white polka dots, her auburn hair tied into pigtails adorned with yellow bows at their ends. Cass was in her usual get up of jeans, her trusty pair of tan riding boots, a plaid shirt and her fedora on top of her head. Her dark hair hung loosely into curls below her shoulders. Her green eyes twinkling as she watched her mother turn to face her, she too was wearing a dress, her auburn hair sweeping down to her shoulders. Her dad locked the car, dress similarly to her and her brother. They approached the state fair. "Right kids, this will be a nice day out" John said, letting his wife link her arm through his. "Be careful and have fun" Mal said, handing both Cass and Jaxon some money. Jaxon gave the biggest mischevious grin, meaning he was going go blow all the money their mother had given them on some hotshots and shooting at one of the game stalls. Cass rolled her eyes. She picked up her little sister and walked in, seeing her parents disappear into the crowd. Jaxon had gone in completely the opposite direction. "Right Beau, where do you want to go first?" She said excitement lightly her voice. "To the ponies!" She said. Cass smiled from ear to ear. "To the ponies..."She repeated.

Caleb watched as a delighted family split to go in different directions. He smiled, seeing yet another gleeful family. He walked over to the tack and grabbed a grooming tote, then walked back over to Splash. "Only 2 hours til showtime, pretty girl." He said, brushing out her knotted mane and picking out shavings from her forelock. He gave her a kiss on the nose before grabbing the hoofpick and picking out her hooves. He sighed as he finished the last hoof, gently setting it down. He patted her neck as he finished with brushing her coat, walking over to grab the saddle and saddle pad. He plopped them onto the mare's back, then went to get the bridle. Splash stood with one foot resting, waiting for her dad to come back. He quickly switched the halter out for a bridle, hoping she wasn't in the mood to play around. Luck was with him, she wasn't. Splash stood obediently as Caleb reached to pull her ears fully through and pull out her forelock from under the browband.

Cass held her little sister still approaching the arena and equestrian side of the fair. The screams of delight and terror now far behind them from the various rides and stalls available. Beau giggled and pointed at a the row of ponies in front of her. Her green eyes wide with delight. Cass smiled as they walked up to the row of trailers and owners preparing their horses for the various equestrian events occuring throughout the day. The slight crunch of the grass beneath Cass' boots signalled their approach to the nearest set of horses. Beau squealed in delight. "Purdy.." She pointed to a tobiano palomino mare in particular. "You like that one do you?" Cass question, delight tickling her voice. They watched as a young man worked, tacking her up. "Looks like she will be in the ring shortly" Cass said, nuzzling Beau to make her laugh.

Caleb turned and looked in the direction of a woman's voice. He nodded to her before waving her over with the child. "Hey. I'm Caleb." He said, offereing his hand for a shake. "And you are?"

Cass looked up at the young man who called himself Caleb. "Hi Caleb" She said as she approached, skirting between the horses lined up. She shuffled her sister in her arms to be able to shake Caleb's hand. Beau gave him a cheesy grin. "This is Beatrice, my sister, she's 4." Beau waved her arms at him, Cass smiled at her before returning her attention to Cass "My name is Cass" She said in a deep rich midwestern accent. "Cassiopiea" Beau tried to pronounce but failed miserable. "Yes that's right" She tickled Beau and she laughed heartily. "Stop" Beau made a motion to try and get Cass to stop. They both turned their attention back to Caleb. "A nice mare you've got there" Cass nodded to the mare as Beau wiggled in her arms. "Are you competing today?" Her green eyes twinkled at him.
