Got a crop field awhile back & found it surprisingly expensive for the little feed it produced & ofcourse feed is not a needful item So I sold it & bought a hay field

As hay sales generate over 70% of the Farm`s income, I have over 1100 acres of pasture dedicated to growing it. I considered crops for a while, but the main reason I decided not to do it was that you can`t use the fields for anything else...or so I understood at the time.

I tried growing crops and mixing grains for a few months. There's a lot of mystery to it. My first attempts left me with large batches of grain, 1000s of pounds, with no obvious way of breaking it into smaller batches to sell. I eventually figured it out. There's no real price point for reference, just other players' randomly priced selections. I did the math and found the basic health and general blends to be far more expensive than hay. Why pay more for something that has no real benefit? Also, when feeding grain, the grain goes down in fractions. For example, I have five pounds of dapple blend, I feed three horses and I'm left with 1.8 lbs. So, I sold my crop fields. I'll stick with hay for now. Apples & Carrots!! Fantastic Idea! Ebol Wen Stables said: I enjoy growing both hay and crops. On this stable I grow both. I use the hay to feed my horses and I also sell it in the shop. I use some grain but I also sell or give it away and I donate some to clubs as prizes. On one of my other stables I only grow hay for feed and to sell, but I also buy some grain to mix myself and use, sell or donate it. On my other stable I do the same as above but I also grow and sell hay to raise funds for my club. I would buy crop fields on both of my other acounts if we could do more with them or if grain became more popular in the shops. I would love to be able to grow other things like apples and carrots. It would also be great to have extra uses for the crops to help them become more popular like you did when you added the Senior Grain. However, I think a lot of people are unsure of how the crops/grain system works.

I grow hay as I need it, as otherwise feeding my horses becomes very expensive. Though only as needed. I found that selling it often results in undercut battles, and gave up with that aspect unfortunately.

Sagebrush said: I just harvested my first field of hay! I think I'll need a second 100 acre pasture to cover most of my horses. I don't think I'll need more than that
