Happens all the time. If I'm shopping, I always check the sales record. Can't blame people for trying, but you can keep yourself from being caught out, at least.

Logically trying to figure out why a rescue would bid higher than me on a horse (had a "buy now" price) so they could rehab it... instead of just letting me do it so they could get another horse. Rescues are so fuckin fake lol. "Ooh it's pretty this one will get donations!"

Okay? And my horses have a craniosacral therapist, massage therapist, chiropractor, 5* farrier, free choice hay, supplements, and a magnawave person. Why put rescue resources into fixing up a horse when it could've had a home.

True. I'm not really upset, it just makes you feel a little taken advantage of, lol. Like if someone is really able to sell a horse for 500k+ that I sold to them for 250k, I'll be like well, shit... lol.

Can someone please explain what the pearl gene does? I used a 'capture a pearl horse" pass and got a chestnut, is that because the horse was a TB or does pearl not effect a chestnut coat?

I guess I also don't entirely know what the pearl gene does to a horse's color to start with...

Chestnuts can "hide" their pearl. So even though it doesn't effect their coat, it can pop up in their foals.
So pearl can make fun colors like apricot! It also on it's own is a fun color- palomino pearl, buckskin pearl, etc.

Also, you should note that pear is a recessive gene. So unlike most other genes, "PrlPrl" actually means no pearl but "Prlprl" and "prlprl" mean the horse does carry pearl

In order for a horse to show their Pearl in the color name they have to also carry Creme. So Palomino Pearl, Dunalino Pearl, Buckskin Pearl etc. Otherwise they will carry the gene but not display it.

It's also worth noting that Pearl won't show up in homozygous Creme horses, but in game at least they can carry it. That's Smokey Creme, Perlino, Brown Creme, and Cremello.

I noticed you asked for someone to explain what Pearl does, and it doesn't look like anyone's done that yet. It's theorized to be a mutated version of the Creme gene, and has a similar effect on the coat to that. They both dilute the pigment in the coat, making it lighter to different degrees.

This theory explains why a horse would need a copy of the Creme gene for Pearl to show up. And it makes sense of why, if they're homozygous Creme, (have 2 copies of the gene) they won't be able to have Pearl too.

The only Pearl you can get without Creme is Apricot, which is homozygous Pearl (prlprl) + a chestnut base (ee).

Thank you both so much, this really helped me understand why I got a chestnut horse using a prl capture, I was afraid TB coudn't carry thegene and I had wasted the prl pass.
And thank you to everyone who answered this really, all of your answers were very helpful
