There are many pros and cons of straws and live covers, here are some if you feel there is something i missed let me know :)
Pro of straws: You may have a favorite stud of yours who may be retiring from breeding but you can still have off spring of his several years after he retired because of straws. And you can reserve a specific straw(s) for some one as you can not do that with a LC.
Con of straws: There are some HEE players who are not a premium account, since they are free they can not use a straw, buy one, or except straws from another member. When using straws we pay an extra fee of 2500 each time a straw is uses. This can rack up quite a bit if you use straws a lot.
Pro of Live Covers: When using a live color any one can use it. A free or premium stable can have access to a top LB stud.
Con of Live Covers: There are only so many live covers a stallion can have a year (20). The only trouble with Live Covers is that ANYONE can use them. If some one had a random factor EEE out of, let's say a PPP and EEP, the mare will most likely produce poorly. Theu could breed this mare to a top stud and the foal would have a poor rating.

For me, I only get straws from a certain few studs, so that when he doesn't offer straws the next year, I'm able to still breed my girls to him. That's a pro for me!!

With studs, you can set a minimum ratings requirement so that when LCing, the mare has to be of a certain rating or higher.
