my dog was put down last year, it's hard, i know. But you can't grieve forever, take a little while and it will get easier, when you feel ready, get another dog of a different breed, that way it doesn't feel as though you are replacing her, it feels you are just adding a new dog to the family <3
That and when we had two dogs - one died of old age, and the other went into a deep depression. He ended up getting cancer and we had to put him down, but he was so unhappy. I think if we would've gotten him a new friend he might've at least lived his last days super excited about a new friend.
When our dog died we unexpectedly got a rescue dog. We thought we weren't ready for another dog, but if we didn't take him he'd have been put down. He's a great dog now and saving him gave meaning to losing to first one.
We had to put two of our dogs down last year, one of them being my best friend and my ride or die,my barn recently lost a horse due to colic, as well as another horse 3 years ago around Christmas time.
I think its a plausible method of coping to get a new pet.
A really super sweet and super funny hen of mine passed away two weeks ago exactly and my immediate reaction was sad/disbelief, but then I thought maybe we should get new chicks to bring up the moods of the household and the coop.
