Awwww bless him, he's just trying to enrich their lives xD What breed is he? Patterdales are known for being super clever, which is definitely the case with Norm. Paddy must have been stuck in the birth canal for a while I think bless him. He does have his moments but getting stuck somewhere with a little blank stare is his trademark

I am very familiar with the 2 braincells thing! I was always wondering why people claim my breed is stupid while I had only girls. they are very smart, downright cunning. Now I have one male and he's the biggest himbo. In fall he keeps carrying around hedgehogs he finds in the yard, like some sort of world's shittiest rollercoaster!

Norm did help me herd 60ish ram lambs every day for a while though so he does have his talents. Actual herding isn't particularly one of them but he tried his best and didn't bite or chase anything so I was happy xD
Minerva

Haha I wish- they're utterly useless xD I was hoping Norm would show an interest in ratting so I could use him on the farm I worked at and in my own paddock, but he wouldn't say boo to a goose. In fairness he did grow up with a hamster so it's sort of understandable. Paddy's a little bit more "kill-y" but he's got 2 functioning braincells on a good day so unless something is presented to him he's useless haha

those are pretty uncommon breeds, Min. Are you using them for hunting, pest control or any kind of dog sports?

I'd bosh out the 3 and skip the 20 San lol. At least you know it'll definitely only take 3 goes now

the dilemma of having 2 quests wanting you to complete 3 and 20 exploring rides without spooking, while also having a bulk of freshly captured horses you DO want to spook!

Norm's a Patterdale terrier, Paddy is an accidental mix lol but he's 50% Patterdale, 25% Lakeland and 25% Jack Russell

Ugh just having the biggest mind blank over whether the dog walker comes at 12 or 1 xD I'm going to plump for 1 since Norm's currently snoring next to me and not looking out the window but if there's a knock on the door in 10 minutes I'm going to feel like a right tit

Oh thanks for reminding me I'm supposed to be checking for a few bits

yeah, if you imagine how many patterns PON can have, it was quite rude. Especially since I think I caught him in one of the "unusual colours realms"

Part 1 of a screen recording of the upcoming Fortuna piece: https://vimeo.com/somewhereahorse/fortuna-part-1

Rewatching my progress, I can immediately see just how far off the anatomy is, wow. I'll be sure to fix that! I'm not aiming for perfectly realistic anatomy—it's just not one of my priorities—but it bothers me enough. But at least I've learned how useful screen recording could be for myself too!

Technical issues due to forgetting to re-record after having to quit my art program. So the video is missing the rest of the process of cutting out the horse, as well as a color change. Let me know if the video speed is too slow or fast!

Is there something about the piece itself that's confusing? I tend to work messily at the start, but I've written notes for what I hope to achieve.

Just the concept itself is something I've never seen before. I always love when artists think out of the box and do something completely never done before 🥰

This is so beautiful! I am so excited to see it when its finished!
If you were using Krita, how did you do the reverse eraser thing for blending the horses bodies together at the beginning? And then how did you get the lasso or selection tool to select at points? I've been trying to get mine to do that for a while now.

I hope you find the end result enjoyable then! :D One idea I'm hoping reaches fruition is featuring the horn of plenty that Fortuna's often depicted with—but in the form of goat horns with fruits/gold spilling out.

I used a transparency mask on the top horse image layer. Not sure how familiar you are with them in Krita, but I'll explain in full anyway :) When you select a layer, you can click the dropdown arrow next to the 'new layer' button to select 'Transparency Mask' or right click a layer to 'Add -> Transparency Mask'. Then if you paint on that transparency mask layer, you can control the opacity of the image based on the lightness of that layer (more white = more opaque).

So I believe the part of the process video you're referring to is right after I painted on the transparency mask with black to "erase". (Using the erase mode when painting on a transparency mask is the same as painting with black.) And then I used a soft circle brush to paint white back onto the mask layer to reverse the erasing smoothly.

The selection tool I'm using is the Path Selection Tool for using Bezier curves to make selections: https://docs.krita.org/en/reference_manual/tools/path_select.html <- shows the icon for the tool plus some useful hotkeys while using it.

Some sketches of the commission I'm working on! Top one is a small lighting/color study. The commissioner gave me a lovely pencil sketch to work off of, which is why I have a rough composition in mind already.

I went in a slightly different direction from the sketch above. Here's the latest WIP: https://i1.lensdump.com/i/0Nui8C.png

For those curious, the piece originally looked like this (https://lensdump.com/i/0NuAov) before I enlarged the cave and gave the piece more depth.
