How about you participate with catching 10 horses, use items on those (like colour items)? So you could do both, have fun and look for reasonable sales

I will probably capture between 200 and 250 horses. I have two big barns freed up and 198 items so far. The 'capture 200'quest is going down tonight, the rest depends on what quest I might get next, how good my captures are and how much barn space I can free up after that

You could play it safe and sell the maps and go shop unwanted horses that you like.
Noone will sell their treasures, but many Stables consider only WWWs as such, so you might even find WWEs

Keep in mind I keep maybe 4-6 horse so only about 200k is genuinely worth it, personally I'm not joining in since I already splurged 1.2 million on a WWW TB stallion lol

So if I remember correctly the capture party also halfs the capture fee, so were talking 500 horses + rating fees = 875k all together I spend. At the most I cap myself at 800 horses or else I would go broke lol, I don't really use maps or items unless I got them from logging in.
