Herd History 2016 - One of my Mom's real estate clients was moving out of state and couldn't take her 2 bucks with her. After my twin and I talked to her, she gave them to us starting what would be one heck of a journey. Early 2017 - Buddy, one of the bucks, passed away of unknown causes. We began searching for a companion for Billy, the other buck, but most goats for sale at the time were either too expensive or too far. However, we ended up getting 3 does named McKenzie, Nana, and Toffee. Mid 2017 - Nana had babies 30 minutes before I got home. Her babies were named Aster and Daisy. Late 2017 - Nana passed away suddenly, and we purchased a doe named Sable and a whether named Frank (Dad didn't like his name so we changed it to Caspian). December 2017 - Toffee had babies in the dead of night. They were named Latte and Mocha. Mocha had floppy kid syndrome and passed away the next day. Spring 2018 - McKenzie finally had babies. They were named Maximus and Baby Girl, and I had to bottle feed them because McKenzie had mastitis. Mid 2018 - Toffee passed away. Fall 2018 - A pack of wild dogs killed Aster, Daisy, Maximus, Baby Girl, and Latte. I didn't pass out, but I don't clearly remember everything after finding their bodies. I cried for hours that day. I loved all of them, but Latte especially was my baby. Spring 2019 - Billy went down so we took him to a vet. They said he had Listeriosis and that even with treatment his prognosis wasn't good. We ultimately decided to put him down. For the rest of 2019 I struggled with keeping or selling the last two goats. I had known for awhile that I wanted to eventually start getting into purebreds so I started looking around. Early in 2020, I found Waxahatchee. He was a great deal, had everything I wanted, and was purebred registered. After buying Hatch, I sold McKenzie, bought Athena, sold Caspian, bought Daphne, and finally bought Lacy. November 2020 - Hatch passed away. December 2020 - Lacy miscarried. January 2021 - Since Hatch passed away, I had no buck, and you can't breed goats without a buck. I kept an eye on the market and finally found Pete, Lani, Lady, and Bear (Pyrenees guard dog). The owner was selling them at a discount because she wanted them to go together.
