Honestly, the reason I am becoming a radiology tech and not a nurse is because then I don't have to deal with being beat up like nurses do by patients. I'm glad you work for such an amazing company though!
A lot of these kids go through severe trauma. It can be so hard to manage the classroom from time to time. I cannot tell you the unholy things kids have told me. And what I have had to say to social services.
Oh yeah. Some days are better than others. Literally got ganged up on by two kids yesterday and had the living shit beaten out of me. I am fine- just looked like a grown ass man beat me up. It is not easy, but the company I work for is fantastic
My Mom used to be a teacher and is an assistant principal at a high school now. After hearing the things she has to deal with I don't want to go into education, but I have deep respect for people who work in it.
I am a Para, I do all the work on the ground with kids. While I hold Certificates and certain I believe you only have to have 90 hours of continuing education to maintain a job. But it differs from state to state on requirements.
@Celeste what do you do for a job in childcare? I worked at an elementary school for a little bit, but started having autistic meltdowns from the screaming kids.
There are plenty! You can get certificates in so much stuff that only requires a minimal amount of higher ed. My school is hiring right now- no certification needed for the ParaProfessional position.
