There are a lot of reasons why he could be acting this way. Some horses get ring sour and need some more variety in their work to really put out their best. What is your riding schedule like, and what do you do during those rides? He could also be in pain, and just be subtle about showing it. Many OTTB's struggle with pain and stiffness in their body that can be relieved with chiropractic work and/or massage therapy. You could also check for ulcers. Would you be willing to give some specific information about his behavior? That could help narrow down your potential problems. |

I think you should go on trail ride or something to clear his mine my horse sometimes get arena sour and gets mad and does not listen to me at all so I don't work in the arena at all and we just have nice ride! :D This may be helpful for not just your horse but you! |

He's had all the work done, no ulcers, good back. I keep my work versatile. We hack out after every ride or just hack without arena work. I jump once a week maybe twice. It's been ever since taking lessons at my old barn in a small circular arena with no straight sides. Now his bad habits of dropping shoulders and tilting his head in/out are showing in a square arena. He fights himself not me and I don't fight with him. |

Well, guess my complaint did something in the mind of Baloo. I switched his bit from a single joint D-ring to a 3 ring, double jointed elevator bit because he really needs the extra leverage. He was above all pretty fantastic. He was soft in the bit and was very good off my leg. We did a little jumping working on turns and he even sat up on his hindquarters and listened when I asked him to shorten his strides instead of running through my hands. This bit allows me to have contact but have a soft hand and looser reins. Hoping this is the breakthrough we needed after weeks of disheartening work.

Baloo has had 2 days off because I've been busy at school in prep for the upcoming year :) Rain permitting I plan to ride him tonight.
I have an ultimate goal of showing in the 3 foot Take2 jumpers in October. I think Baloo and I are already on a solid path in the right direction and with 3 more month of work to go I have hope that we can do well. |

Had a good, simple ride with a little jump just trying to bring him out of this lazy hunch he's been on lol. Lesson tomorrow morning. I'm assuming flat work :) |
