here is a video of me riding the horse I currently lease.

I like your tall posture and seat, it's allows for good movement with the horse. The only thing I see wrong about that is tension. Your reinless arms is stiff as a board and your shoulders could use a little relaxation too. I know that western pleasure riders like that kind of look, but I'd prefer to see you more relaxed. Otherwise, I think you've supported Spike well and are quite effective with your aids. The only thing I'd critique there is the pull at his mouth near to the end of the video, but it looks like it was just another aid that landed roughly. As for Spike's gait, I personally don't appreciate how he's so slow and appears dead lame, but that's my issue with all of western pleasure and thus it means nothing on you.

Great rides, everyone! <3

Again, this was four and a half years ago XD Hugie is a horse who would prefer to spend all day being an ass and chasing mares. But also, I don't ride competitively, and it's a summer camp. To be perfectly honest, it's a place where you learn the basics, and I'm sure with proper training I'd be much better, but I don't have the time or money for that during the year.
Too many excuses lol. And I don't know what was up with Hugie's tack. He's perfectly fine with bitless. Very much a leg horse
Edit:
It's also a university stable, and the camp is really just some extra money for the college and something for the horses to do in between school years.

I understand that.
I think you could make an amazing rider if you did it more often! Don't you dare find another excuse, Fleur, you have to riiide x)

Explain that to parents who work 7-5 or later every day and have no way of getting me to any barns (which are all 30 mins + away). Also, trying to pay for community college leaves no room for anything fun, like lessons. :(
My excuses are real and they suck. But I'll try and get some better videos of me riding this summer. Hopefully I've improved lol?

Thank you, that was one of my first rides on him but he needs spurs to push him up a little bit. He looks so much better now that I have learned how to ride him and what he likes but it has been so cold recently I haven't been able to get any videos of me riding. My trainer has been working with me and him and he's actually more of an English horse that is what he won state champion in so I think that is what she is going to have me show but I am more of a western rider because that is what I grew up doing.

Alright so this was last year i have improved alot since this

First thing I notice is tension in your back, arms, and hands. Tension causes trouble balancing and using your aids effectively, also causing you to pull your horse's mouth. Remember to breath and keep your focus on what you will do next. I would also like to see you widen your hands a bit, as you seem to be hugging them together throughout most of the video. More contact on your reins would also be appreciated, and don't ever forget to frame your horse for workouts! Framing isn't just to make horses look pretty. It's actually extremely beneficial for their bodies, helping them learn to move correctly (without damaging themselves) and building up extremely important muscles like the top line. So, unless your going for a loose rein relax time or fun ride, get that pony consistent in collection with a steady outside rein and rhythmic taps on the inside rein paired with inside leg. Another thing I see continuing throughout the whole video is the horse leaning. You need to give your horse more backup to stop him/her from leaning. This can be raising your inside shoulder or consistently tapping with inside leg, and a steady outside rein will always be beneficial. As for your posture, I think you could benefit from the blanket band exercise I mentioned for Fleur up above. Also, you should add more weight to your heels, especially in the center. Action needs a "shock absorber", and for riding this needs to be your heels. Otherwise, it's your horse's back, and we all know that's a no go. So, while it may seem hard at first, really try to sit deep in the saddle and let the shock of the motion travel into your heels, causing a small bounce to your feet instead of your body.

Yes I always seemed to tense up more in the canter I don't know why as I had nothing to be sceard of. At the time we were working on getting him in a frame. It took alot of time since he hated having to collected his head but once I got him in that frame he would work nicely even if it was for a few laps. But I will definitely take this advice on board and use it next time I go riding

I tense up at the canter too! I've had that problem for awhile I also forget to breathe lol my trainer is always like "remember to breathe!" Because I am so focused and dedicated to riding I just forget to breathe or relax.

Yeah it's a bad habbit for me although I have improved alot. That's the only thing I tense up with it forget to breath with. If my horse bucks or takes off I sit there laughing while I stay on. But I must admit one time my trainer did threaten to tie me to the saddle if I couldn't concentrate and relax lol
