Awww he is so cute! I don't understand why people think that TB's shouldn't be western horses, I think, with the correct training, that they are amazing! Half of my childhood western horses were TB's or X's.

One of my very good friends is a young barrel racer and took her TB to the Junior American. They can definitely be amazing western horses with good training. Even the most difficult ones like hers that nobody wanted.

My mom still hasn't sent me the pictures lol so I'm just waiting for that... not sure if there are any decent ones to post here anyway honestly but I'll see. Gotta chop my head off lol
Anyway, rode today and roped the Heel-O-Matic while it was sitting in our arena off of Baloo for the first time. He was super good! The dummy itself scared him but he got over it after a sniff.
After that I did a usual ride (western, I've felt unmotivated to ride English) on the flat just working on his stops and bending mostly. I had the idea to play with his lead changes (not expecting much) but I wanted to try considering he switches them around the barrels so well. Sure enough, literally freaking PERFECT flying changes both ways! Like, the most perfect changes I could ask for. I was pleasantly surprised and super super proud of him. I can't stress enough how much I see him learn with every ride and how much he has improved in the short month I've owned him!

You know, I actually don't think anyone really thinks this anymore (with the exception, because you know, there are always some people that are the exception haha). I've got a TB off the track and I've had him for 11 years this year, and in those 11 years I've seen/heard COUNTLESS people ask why people don't think TBs can do western... but I've never actually heard anyone say that they can't?? Lol. I know it used to be an issue back in the day but I think TBs are extremely popular as western horses, especially in speed events these days

I think lots of people have "culturalized" TB's into an English breed simply because they are more frequently seen and are tall with a more "English build". I don't know about you but when I think western horse, I think a short, stocky QH. I think that's people just making a stereotype which makes a TB seem like a horse that's unsuitable for western events. Of course, it's not true! Any horse has the potential for any discipline.

Well... there is now a week of rain ahead and I don't have an indoor arena so.... unless we haul somewhere Baloo will just be chilling lol. I didn't ride today but I did the day before and we jumped a crossrail across the diagonal (rode English finally). But that's about all. It was a halfway decent ride but he seemed a little nervous and I wasn't really in the best mindset.
