What's the most horrific/notable/funniest way you've ever fallen off of (or almost fallen off of) a horse?
For me, the most notable/funniest involuntary dismount I've made was when my horse, Zippy, slowly walked into a mailbox (like the ones they use for trail patterns), knocked it over, had the audacity to spook and jumped sideways. I slid off of the side and somehow landed on my feet.
The most horrific (near-miss) was when I jumped a horse I used to ride and upon landing he stumbled and fell on his knees. Somehow, I had the presence of mind to stay on his back and pull his head up so he could stand back up.

My falls are rarely funny, I'm the queen of narrow escapes lol.

1) My horse caught her leg in the martingale whilst jumping and fell on landing. Plenty of people have gotten serious head injuries this way, yet I was somehow scratch free. (Tighten your martingales!!!)
2) Horse "left a leg" whilst eventing. We didn't rotate but I went out the side door. I was fine, I just ripped my hat cover. I no longer event now, I just don't really like the strain it puts on them, and after that fall it put into perspective how much I was risking the welfare of my horse. I admire those who event it's just really not for me!
3) Horse over jumped, I came out of the saddle and landed on my feet. Broke my ankle. Didn't realise (or maybe I was just being stubborn) and I walked on it for a week before finally getting it scanned.
4) My most recent fall a month ago; slipped off the side whilst jumping, I don't really remember what happened but I lost my vision, couldn't form coherent sentences and lost my memory. Went to hospital to discover I was having a brain bleed. That was the first time in my life I actually thought I was dying. Always wear a helmet guys! Mine saved my life

A horse im training reared, and I flipped (like, a full on flip) over her shoulder. She kicked me in the ribs and I sprained my wrist. It was not a good day XD

My most recent almost meeting with the ground was yesterday. I was jumping my up and coming 3'6" for the second time. He got excited and jumped two strides out. Cleared the jump and popped me right out of the tack, I landed 6 inches in front of the breastplate on his neck.

My horse was jumping and she did a weird jump and hit her mouth against her hoof. She then bit her bell boot and couldn't understand why she couldn't move her hoof. She had no foot to land on so she just hit the ground. I face planted into the ground and did a handstand. Yes my horse is fine :) she put her shoulder out a bit but a chiropractor fixed that :)

Most funny: This was a couple of weeks ago, a friend and I were riding bareback around the ranch and I had on western pad under my bareback pad just to try it out and see if I liked the cushion... long story short it was like doing the splits, but I knew it was just going to be a short walk around the ranch so I didn't bother to take it off well that came back to bite me in the butt because we were riding though the barn and my pig/horse hybrid stopped to eat so I was pulling his face up and he wasn't really paying attention so I kicked him to get his focus on me, but when I kicked him a horse in a stall took that minute to put his head up which spooked Geronimo and caused me to slide off and into the softest most easy fall I've ever experienced XD

Most Horrifying: I was at a gymkhana with the same horse from the previous story. The arena was small, but it was still really well run, anyways there were two events left (first precision barrels, then cloverleaf barrels), I bring my horse in and keep him at a slow canter since it's just a for fun/kind of schooling day. Well we turn the last barrel in the pattern and I feel him giving me the "Ok, can I please run??" body language so I say "screw it" and let him go full out on the way home. I didn't even see the timers pass by and before I knew it we were at the fence, he turned and I went into the wooden rail. According to the people who were there I almost went through it, I couldn't feel anything for the first 10ish minutes and now I don't really remember much of those 10 minutes, probably because I was in shock, but I finished the last pattern of the day and went home (after taking care of my horse), but looking back on it I probably should have gone to the doctors, because now (2 years later) my right shoulder blade (where I hit the rail) still flares up occasionally which is so fun(/sarcasm) so yeah, those are two of my stories though I have at least 20 more XD

The funniest/dumbest is probably the first time I fell off, I was 5/6 and riding the most broke lesson pony, we were going at probably the slowest trot ever and he sped up the tiniest bit and I slid off. I don't know why or how, it's not like he did anything wrong. My seat and posting were probably shit so that's probably why.
Edit : I also had a few close calls a few years ago all on the same pony (she's almost a horse and I'm tiny, I'm not to big for her). One time we were going over a few cavolettis and I ended up in front of the saddle and she started walking out the door. She also bucked after jumps, tiny bucks that we called "victory hops" but I never fell off. Even if I had, it wouldn't have been a long way to fall lmao.

I've fallen off 18 times. I don't remember each individual one, but my most painful was last winter, during a wind storm. I was riding a fairly tall horse. She spooked, I accidentally put my weight toward the outside. She turned, and I fell. My side still hurts at times.

My funniest fall was when my mom pulled me off our unbroken horse. I was young at the time.

I don't fall off often luckily but I still can not possibly keep track of them all.
One fall I remember that was kind of funny/scary was when me and my friend where just playing around bareback to kill some time. The barn we where at had a grass ring used for obsticals, if you left that arena there was a 7 acre field that was flat to ride in and a massive dirt arena that was not fenced it. After playing on the obstaicals we wanted to go out to the field to do a few laps. I admittedly can not get on bareback (and yes my horse at the time is 14.2 HH) and neither could my friend (her horse also had standing issues when mounting). I needed to touch my gate opening skills and knowing neither of us where going to get off I said I would open and close the gate. Jewel nicely side passed into the gate stood for me to start to open the gate. As soon as I opened the gate just about wide enough to squeeze through with no rider on Jewel started getting antsy. I asked for a step forward so I could reach the gate better but Jewel decided that she was barging through. I tried pulling her up but I had my reins way to long since I was paying more attention to the gate. Knowing that there was no stopping her I just tried to get my legs out of the way so she would not crush them. Unforentily as we where bareback and lost my balance trying to swing my leg high enough to avoid the gate and ended up sliding off into the gate and then falling on to the other side. Jewel calmed her self down and walked over to check if I was fine (I was). I stand up to realize that my friend and my dad who apparently was watching laughing at me. I learned that day that Jewel was a little claustrophobic and we needed wayyyy more gate work.
