Major win tonight and I have to share it with someone!

I'm house-sitting with two dogs, one is my instant-best-friend, absolute best pup and so eager to play and train and cuddle.

The other has been standoffish all week and unwilling to accept my presence in her life - glare even when I offer her choice chicken meat. (Nothing bad or malicious, just uncomfortable with anyone other than immediate family).
- She jumped on the bed with me!!! She chose to leave her room of comfort and her spots, to actually be with me (and the snuggle pup)!
I'm so excited but trying to play cool.

Feb 16th

And the adoption appointment gets canceled again! Also to weather. We have rescheduled the appointment for Feb 23rd. It was really disheartening and disappointing that it got canceled for the second time but, I also understand the dangers of traveling in the bad weather.

Dang, the universe is really working against you lol. So excited for your mustang. Are you choosing it yourself, and if so, what are your "criteria" for the horse? As in age, height, sex, etc.? I'm considering getting one of my own once my current horse is less of a handful haha

Haha. Yes, it does seem that way! I'm trying not to get to down about it but... oh well. I am choosing it myself this year. The Mustang Heritage Foundation's criteria for the youth mustangs is that they have to be 12-24 months of age. My criteria however is very loose and I really want to keep an open mind about it. The horse will be sold after the competition simply because that was the original plan plus I already have my own personal horse.
...
Not in order:
- preferably a gelding
- since it will be sold, a flashy color would be nice, but again, very loose
- due to the young age, I have no criteria on height
- would like to get an older age from the age range they will be giving us, just because the younger they are, the less mental "stamina" they have, if that makes sense
- I would LOVE a roan. I love roans but, again, not a must at all
- probably going to go for the mustang who is relatively one of the quieter ones as this is my first makeover
- I'll also look to see if they ever come sniff me through their pen, and how they interact with other mustangs in the pen
- I don't really have a preferred HMA (Herd Management Area) but one of the more well known ones would be nice since he/she will most likely be sold
...
That seems like alot, but it's really loose and I don't really have a set criteria. The biggest thing is probably I want a gelding. But, hey, they may not have any at the time we go pick he/she up.
...
Thanks for the interest!

This bad weather is kicking my butt too. I have arrangements to go see a mare on Sunday, and hopefully, the roads will be good enough to drive the 200ish miles to get there. Even going 50 miles is too much of a task for the old truck with the slippery road situation. I think rescheduling your trip was a good idea though. It's better to wait a week than end up in a 100 car pileup on the freeway.
.
What all training are you going to do with your mustang. Since the horse will be under 2 years old, I'm guessing showmanship and in hand trail, but that's all I know about in hand classes. I can't wait to see what all you teach it. My show steer sidepasses and pivots and I don't know how or why he started doing it, but that's the fanciest anything I have can do in hand.

Yes, alot of showmanship and in-hand trail. I will most definitely be teaching him/her to side pass and pivot, as there is quite a good chance that we will have to show off that skill during the competition. I will also probably introduce him to the saddle and riding gear but not actually ride him or anything of the sorts as he will only be two or so. I want to do this because he will be sold after the competition and this will hopefully give him and his future owner/rider a leg up in training.

We are on our drive to pick out a mustang! The approval was confirmed yesterday so we hit the road at 4:30 AM. We will be at the facility in approximately 3 and a half hours from now. I'll probably update y'all when we are on our way home!
