She's beautiful!
Also on a random note I love researching about racehorses (this wasn't really a "research" just a quick equibase search lol)
And I believe this is her:
Anywho, huge congrats on her, she's absolutely lovely <3

It is her and thank you! I wish I could find pictures of her from her racing days but I'm not sure how I would go about getting those since I cant find any on google or the equibase website

Mystery Injury
Well these past few weeks have not been ideal at all. I set up a ferrier appointment for Elvira on the 19th and while on my lunch break I headed out to the boarding facility to meet the farrier there. When I showed up, the facility owner, the ranch hand, and the farrier were standing around Elviras stall. When I walked up to them the facility owner explained to me that she had no idea how it happened but Elvira is suddenly very lame on her left rear leg. Sure enough when I looked into her stall Elvira was not putting ANY weight on her leg and was having a very difficult time moving around.
Thankfully once the ranch hand noticed something was wrong he notified the facility owner who immediately called the vet. (They did try to call me first but due to where I work I do not have my phone on me at all times) The vet was on her way out as soon as she finished up her current farm call. When she got there we managed to get Elvira over to the vet care area of the barn and immediately the vet started checking her leg. The farrier had already checked her hoof and found nothing wrong, but the vet double checked her hoof anyways and also found nothing out of the ordinary.
While looking over the rest of her leg however she did find old firing pin scars on that leg and a weird soft tissue bump about 5 inches below her hock. The vet didnt think it was a cyst or abcess since it was very soft so she got all her X-ray stuff set up to X-ray that leg. What we saw in the X-rays was shocking, Elvira had managed to break one of her splint bones!
The rest of the leg was fine, her other splint bone and her cannon bone were fine, and the break in the splint bone was a clean split so no fragments were floating around in there. all of us, The facility owner, the ranch hand, the farrier, the vet, the vet tech, and I spent almost an entire hour walking around Elvira's stall trying to figure out how the heck she managed to break her bone and we could not figure it out. There was no signs of her getting trapped against any of the panels, no signs of a struggle in the dirt anywhere in the stall, and there were no horses in either of the stalls next to her so she couldnt have been kicked somehow.
She was completely fine and sound the day prior when I was working with her in the obstacle arena (Hand walking no riding) and that was later in the afternoon. The only thing I can think of is those stories you hear about humans doing something simple but getting injured because of it. I once had a neighbor who stepped off the sidewalk to get to her mailbox and somehow broke her ankle, and a friend of mine once broke her knee when she stepped out her truck! I'm thinking maybe Elvira was rolling or laying down and when she went to get up maybe she just did it wrong lol Who knows! All that matters is she is doing much better now and is walking normally. The bump is still there but has decreased in size about 50%. She was on strict stall rest for a week and this week we have started slow hand walks for about 5 minutes around the barn. Next week I'll start letting her loose to move around as she pleases in the round pen with the softest sand. The vet has very high hopes for a quick recovery and is happy with her progress so far!
Oh Miss Elvira, how did you do it???

Damn, that's scary. I know of two different incidents in the past month where top dollar horses were waking up from surgery or recently post surgery and they shattered their hind legs upon getting up. It's not unheard of, glad your beautiful lady is doing well!!
