"Dikon!" Wyla howled, tears glistening in her eyes. "Don't leave me!" The large male stopped for a moment before saying in a low voice, "This is my destiny, Wyla. And I won't let you or ANYBODY STOP ME!" He bared his teeth at her before twisting back around and racing away from her.
"Dikon!!" Wyla screamed again. She tried to run after him, but Tyri stopped her, stepping in her way. "Leave him." She spoke softly. "He will come back." She added in a low whisper, "I hope."
Three Years Earlier~~~~
"Dikon! Move out of the way!" Tyri giggled biting gently on the other pup's ear. "Ouch!" Dikon squeaked, tackling Tyri. "Let me up, let me up!" Tyri barked, pushing the male pup.
"Now, now. Calm down, pups. No need to get more dirty. Today is the day of Great Howl! You must look good!" A beautiful she-wolf picked Tyri up by her scruff, taking her to a back corner of the nesting den and licking her clean.
"Mo-om!" The young pup tried to get away, but her mother brought her back again. "Heh!" Dikon laughed. "Tyri, not so big and bad anymore!" He puffed up his little chest.
"Dikon, you should be getting clean, too." Dikon's mother picked him up, as well, bringing him to the other side of the small den and cleaning him.
"Hey! Hey, guys!" A small white pup stumbled into the den. "Alpha called a meeting!" She barked in excitement. Tyri widened her eyes.
"Can we go, mom?" She asked, batting her sparkly green eyes. "Please? We're nearly adults!" Tyri's mother raised a brow, in thought.
"Our Great Howl IS tonight!" Dikon piped up. Tyri nodded in excitement. "We will be adults tonight!"
The white pup at the entrance nodded. "My mom said I could go!" The two mothers in the den looked at each other. Wyla's mother was the Beta, the second in command besides Wyla's father, the Alpha.
"Alright." Tyri's mother gave in. "You can go." Tyri squealed in happiness. "Thanks, mom! You won't regret it!" Dikon leapt out of his mother's paws, following after Tyri and Wyla as they ran out of the den.
Tyri's mother sighed. "Oh, Sentia. We both know what this meeting will be about..." The pitch black fea shook her head sadly.
Sentia nodded, looking at her paws as she stood up. "Yes. But Nova, the pups are old enough. They should know the sad truth about their friend...." |

"I'm gonna get there first!" Tyri barked, pushing in front of Dikon and running ahead toward the gathering. "No fair! I'M the oldest, I should get there first!" Dikon exclaimed, trying to outrun the dark brown she-wolf.
Wyla laughed at the two's antics and ran along after them. "Wait up!" She giggled. Her aqua eyes flashed when she noticed that Dikon and Tyri had slid to a stop at the back of the clearing.
Wyla spotted a large white male atop the Highrock. "Dad." She breathed, smiling. But her face fell when she heard what her father had to say.
"As we all know, we have five pups within the camp." Wyla could see hesitation in her father's golden eyes. She tipped her head. She had never seen him like this. Something was making him nervous.
"However, one of them..." he paused, laying his ears against his skull and clearing his throat. "One of them..." he spoke again. "....will not be made an adult tonight."
Wyla gasped and she took a step backward. "What?" She barked and her father stared down at her, sorrow in his eyes. Many other wolves turned to look at her, including Tyri and Dikon. Wyla could see equal confusion in their expressions.
"Yes." Wyla's father stared down at his paws, squeezing his eyes shut. "One of them....will not continue to live within this pack any longer."
Wyla's eyes widened with horror. She opened her jaws to speak, but nothing came out.
The Alpha stood up taller on his Highrock. "Milo, please come up to the Highrock." He said, his voice wavering.
Wyla pricked her ears as one of her best friends limped up to the rock. Milo was a very small pup. He was a runt to his sister, Laykita. He never came out of his mother's den much. His mother wouldn't allow it. So whenever Tyri, Dikon, and her went to play with him, they had to play in the den. It was cramped and small and was never much fun.
Wyla was snapped back to reality when her father's voice said, "Milo has not been allowed to be in the nesting den, the nursery." He said, not looking at the small and skinny pup by his side. "Due to his....misfortune." he added, taking a breath. "He, too, is of age to become an adult."
Milo gazed up at the Alpha, confused and fearful. "However, he cannot." Wyla's father spoke in a gruff voice. Milo flattened his ears, eyes wide.

“NO!” Wyla burst out, fury and confusion in her eyes. “Milo is a wolf as much as any of us! He should be treated as so!” She bared her teeth. She wouldn't let them take her friend away. She wouldn't let her father leave him behind.
The Alpha narrowed his eyes at his daughter. “Wyla.” he spoke in a deep voice. “You have no say in this matter. I am Alpha and you should respect that.” He said that last part in distaste. “The decision has been made.” He flicked his tail and shut his eyes, as if it pained him to do this.
Wyla stared at her father in disbelief. How could he do this? Milo had done nothing wrong! It was not his fault be was born the way he was! Tyri and Dikon turned and padded up beside her.
“I don't get it, either.” Tyri spoke softly, her voice tinted with sadness. The dark brown wolf lowered her head. “Milo will be okay. He is a strong wolf….” she didn't get to finish, as Wyla turned around and ran from the meeting clearing. Tyri sighed and looked up at Dikon in sadness.
“Milo is to be left at the Sun Leave tomorrow at first sun.” The Alpha said, still not looking at the young pup.
Milo gazed up at the male with fear and sadness in his eyes. He said nothing, only staring. But his gaze said it all. He lowered his head in defeat, his tail falling limp.
“Sentia, Kana, you sre to escort him there tomorrow, first thing.” he nodded, glanced down at the pup quickly. “You may leave, now.” He said, his voice suddenly small and sad, now that most of the wolves had left the clearing besides Milo's mother, Sentia, Kana, and his Beta.
Milo nodded sadly, jumping off the rock. He landed on his side. He looked down at his front right leg, cursing it for being twisted. He had been born this way, with this defect. He stood up and hobbled over to his mother, who nuzzled him with a tear stricken face. “Let's go.” she said, her voice wavering and thick with sadness and fear.
Milo nodded, limping back to his and his mother's den. He looked back one last time to see the Alpha padding back to his den, looking tired as if the world was on his shoulders.

“How could he do this?!” Wyla barked, angry. She paced up and down the nursery, staring at the ground. “How could my father be so heartless!” she looked up, revealing tears glistening in her eyes. Milo had been her friend since birth. He had always been there for her and he had even encouraged her to go on her first hunt. She sighed and flopped down.
“Maybe it's for a reason…” Dikon tried.
“Yeah. I can't imagine your father just leaving a wolf for nothing….especially not a pup.” Tyri added, looking just as sullen as Wyla.
Wyla turned her head away from her friends in silence, unsure of what to say or do.
“Milo will be okay, Wyla. But there is nothing we can do….Alpha's decision is final.” Tyri shook her head, as if she was telling herself this and not Wyla.
Wyla suddenly raised her head and stood up. “That's it!” she breathed, turning to look at Tyri and Dikon in excitement. “We CAN do something!” she flicked her tail in excitement. She had a plan. She would save her friend.
Tyri made a confused noise. “That's not what I said…” she began, then perked up. “Wait, I know that face! You have a plan, don't you!” she inquired, standing up in excitement as well.
Dikon laughed in a low voice. “Tell us what you got.” a smug look came across his face. Milo was his friend, too. And he was up to any possible way to protect him.
