Oh that's another one actually- do any of you long-rein without a bit in, and if so what tack do you put on? Ted's got a year without a bit as I'll not know if his wolf teeth have fallen out until his next dentist check (and then he'll have them removed if they haven't) but I'd like to get him longreining before then to help his confidence

It ultimately is luck but using maps and capturing on capture day helps a lot. I am kind of a capture addict lol if you just keep going you will lose a lot of money but eventually you might get something good lol

Min if you are open to it you should look up some demos for how clicker trainers teach good manners. He could definitely figure out expectations around food. It’s like if you’re bad at math you need to practice math problems. If he’s bad with food around you need to practice with him and food

How are you guys capturing W's in the wild?

Thankfully Ted figured out FAST that I was a provider of food. It's unfortunate that we've had to annex treats because that would get him doing pretty much anything, but unfortunately he bites like a bastard when theres even the hint of them being around. He'll be a cracking horse when he's all grown up though- even as a gangly baby he's eyecatching

Absolutely haha. I'm really proud of him though- he arrived at the end of May vaguely leadable but pretty much feral and had to live in the field shelter for a week. Now he's out in the field with no headcollar 24/7 and I can lob a rug onto him while he's loose without him lifting his head

Yeah Boulder so relatable. I try to let my horse initiate touch and the things we do whenever possible. Like take the extra five minutes to let her walk up to me in the field instead of going out and getting her, pause when she turns her head away when brushing, etc. It changes the game truly and has honestly completely changed how I go about life in general, for the better. Horses have so little autonomy in our world so the little things like that we can do means so much to them. When I’m bridling a horse or anything like that I notice that they will maybe seem like they’re saying no initially by turning away or something. If you notice and respect that a lot of the time they will immediately put their nose in after, where if you had tried to chase after them it probably would escalate. That whole philosophy just means a lot to me

Haha I'll put a bit less pressure on myself then thank you. I'm hoping to get some poles before the end of the year so we can do some proprioception work because my goodness that boy doesn't know where his feet are xD Plus side is he doesn't mind things being around his legs whatsoever since he's so used to wandering into things

This is my first ever fully done photo manip, and I was looking for some more experienced people to critique it. I am rather proud of it, but I have a tough skin so please, every word counts!
Also, how much do you think a good SB is for it?Things I know im not the greatest at but am working on:
Horse Shadow
Mane
General grounding
Edit: it would probably be helpful if I actually put the image up, huh?

Welcome to the world of arting - this is a really great first manip! I'm afraid I can't help on SB pricing as I have been a T1 artist for quite a while and am really out of the loop with starter pricing.

Here are some things I really like:
- the action/movement of mane and tail
- the tone of the horse (yellow/golden) matching the tone of the background
- the markings are a nice bright white

Here are some things I would work on:
- The horse
It seems like you accidentally chopped off some of the horse's booty on the right side of the stock image. When cutting, make sure to go very slow with a hard brush. It's important to stay true to the stock horse's form (so no cutting off pieces of body) and making sure your lines are flowing nicely. If you really zoom in on the portion you cut off, you'll notice that the edge is pretty bumpy.
- The hoof color
Hooves aren't golden. :) If a horse has white markings going down to their legs, the hoof is almost always a light coral/cream color. Studying other images of horses, seeing what tones/colors are actually present in horses in real life in their coats, hooves, and mane are incredibly helpful!
- Blend the white markings
You did the markings beautifully, but they look a little too crisp to be "actually" on a horse's coat. With a smudging brush on low strength, just gently work around the edges of the white markings, smudging them ever so softly so it looks like a natural line of coat hairs.
- Shadow & highlights on the horse
While you have a great shadow on the ground, a shadow also needs to be on your horse! It seems as though light is coming from the back in the background. So the "top" portions of your horse need to be highlighted in a lighter yellow/golden color. Likewise, the "bottom" portions of your horse, especially the belly and hooves need to be cast in a darker tone to shadow them. This will provide lots of depth to your horse.
- The mane and tail
It looks like you have tried to draw the mane and tail by drawing each hair individually. It is much easier if, for the base of your mane and tail - you create an outline and then color it in completely. This will prevent "white space gaps" in your mane and tail.

If you would like, please do visit my step-by-step art guide. I have all of these topics broken down and explained much clearer there, along with photos of my artwork so you can follow me through the steps visually as well. :)
If you have any questions, feel free to comment there and I can help you.

Thanks a bunch! I'm going to revisit this art piece and try to fix some things you've stated. Im very glad the shadow looks alright, so that was a win for me!

This is what I did:
Added highlights/shadows (Your guide was very informative!)
Pasted hooves from original picture to the manip to correct color
Airbrushed under mane to attempt to make it less gappy/more full (cause I am not redrawing that xD)
Smudged the edges of white markings (mainly face)
What I didn't do:
I couldn't find a viable way to make the horse stock look less awkward, so I think its just gonna have to stay that way (Thank you for the erasing tips!)
I also didn't redraw the mane comepletely simply because I didn't want to risk losing the movement I have now, but I will do that on my next piece!
