This is the first piece I have ever done and was wondering if some more experienced artists could offer some tips and pointers? It would be really helpful to hear what people like and then what they think can be improved (a lot can I know lol). I think because so much needs improving, I'm a bit lost on where to start!

I think this piece is really cute! Here are some pointers.
.
1. Choose a better background. I love the theme, but I don't like how it's blurry. Personaly, I like the blur the background behind the horse, but it should be crisp and sharp on the ground by the horse.
2. The horse looks a little squished, like the perspective is off. If that was the stock, then I'd recommend choosing a different one, or if that was how you got it to horse avatar size, I'd recommend finding a different way.
3. I like how you remembered to add a shadow! That's really important to ground the piece. But you have to make sure to match the lighting of the background. Personally, although it's hard to tell, the light is coming from the left middle/top of the image. So the shadow should be on the opposite side, the bottom right hand corner.
4. Painting hair. This is something for future, my best recommendation is to follow one of the many tutorials for it! How well you do hair is honestly one of the biggest factors of what piece sells, along with how good quality your images are.
5. Eyes. Since this is a ghost theme it doesn't matter much and the dark eyes goes quite well with the piece. But usually you'd want to repaint the eye, there are a few tutorials you can find pinned to the top of this forum section!
.
Overall this is an awesome first piece and a great start in your art journey! Feel free to reach out to me if you ever want more advice in the future/more specific advice.
