No lines, and no chasing. You just don't know our way and I'll leave it at that.

I wasn't a super fan of Warwick until I saw an article heading that said something like Let Your Horse Approach You
(Yes literally only read the title)
And it's made a Huge improvement in my interactions with the horses at the barn.
I can have the stall door open and have them between me at it (huge outdoor pen) and they will chose to come to me and boop my hand without any interaction besides standing still.

And I saw a video where he said don't touch the horse until they touch you and they will tell you where to touch

(Some of it feels woowoo, but it's making a difference in the relationships between the horses and I)

Yeah of course, it’s definitely a trust the process kind of exercise you have to be patient and you’ll feel like you’re not doing anything but worth it. I enjoy when training feels more collaborative with our animal friends, worth the time it takes

And seconding Warwick Schiller, he's one of the few clinicians I really respect.

Awww good pony! It just sounds like typical laziness/not being confident enough to carry himself forward. He'll get there!
Minerva
01:35:18 Min
Ooh I'll have a look at that one, thanks Red!
Minerva
01:34:16 Min
Haha exactly Puck! I'm hoping the more we go out the more keen he'll be to get on with it. He's a very good chap overall- and he's even happy to walk out in front of Minnie if I've got someone to lead her. He met his first tractor last night and was a 10/10 brave boy bless him

Unless your lunge lunge is 200 feet long it's gonna be a small circle lol
Red Horizon Ranch

And no chasing, showing them who’s boss, etc. necessary. I really don’t enjoy having to do that kind of thing and good news, you really basically never have to XD

I said nothing about small circles, but whatever.
We have a different view of how to do things with 2 yr olds.

I really like Warwick Schiller’s “leading with energy” exercise for staying in the right position/responsiveness when leading, my mate was so “lazy” seeming and wanted to be directly behind me while leading, would pin her ears and swish tail when asked to go forward, it worked incredibly well
Minerva
01:31:33 Min
To be honest the maximum I'd ever lunge any horse is like 20 minutes, and that would be their entire work for the day. It has it's place but isn't my preferred method for anything
FirstLightFarms
01:30:53 puck
Min, he sounds like my pony! Just needs to learn a little responsibility about walking forward instead of being dragged every step 😂
FirstLightFarms
01:30:05 puck
Yeah it'd hurt, small circles are the worst for babies. Great way to do damage to their joints. And chasing a horse on the line isnt exactly the best way to establish you're in charge 🙃
Minerva
01:29:48 Min
That's great Puck, thank you! He naturally likes to put himself behind me, although we've been working on that and he's much happier walking out nicely now. When we're out and about he plants a few times right at the start, then likes to march. He's definitely more of a woah than go pony, which will be great when I'm backing him in a few years, but not ideal with ride and lead haha

Going in circles for more than a few minutes is not good for baby joints
Pentagram Stables

Creek - it's not like he'd be asked to canter, or even trot for an entire hour. lol
It wouldn't hurt him any, and he might just get the idea who's in charge.
Minerva
01:26:11 Min
Yeah he's lost his treat privileges sadly- we do scratches as rewards now and he gets a lick for big things like farrier
FirstLightFarms
01:25:23 puck
Babies are so lazy and uncertain lmao. I hate ponying the greenies.
When you walk him on foot, does he follow you or walk at your shoulder? Do you have to drag him or does he move off/ respond to your energy without the rope getting involved?
Work on getting him a little lighter on the lead rope on the ground, and that should translate into ponying.
And if nothing else, stand still on your pony and bump bump with the lead rope until he's at your knee. Then step forward, bump bump until he's at your knee. He does not get a release until his head is at your knee. Even if you get on and take one step at a time for a ride or so, eventually he'll realize its easier to just walk forward and stay at your knee than it is to be dragged behind.
Minerva
01:25:06 Min
Oh yeah missed the hour part- he'd be on for like 5 minutes to razz him up haha. I don't hammer babies don't worry!

Raven went for her morning run like normal before she went to her class after her lessons her and the others went right on to the field to practice and learn new lessons for the rest of the day " Raven how are you so good you got it on the first try again like normal." Ravens teacher said to her "I been watching YT and practicing a lot." Raven said back to him before she went to the shelter she wanted a pet she really wanted a kitten

[Chloe held a small kitten in the shelter's veterinary office. She let the small kitten drink from the bottle she held. An older kitten in another cage near her began to mew sticking it's little paws through the bars. She gave a slight giggle, shelters were where she escaped.]

[Chloe heard the dog but ignored it. The dogs at the shelter were always rambunctious. She stood up still holding the little kitten and walked over to a kennel setting it inside with a few little mewing kittens. Chloe walked over to the kitten sticking its paw out of the kennel and mewing. She playfully poked at the kittens paw before petting its head with her finger. Chloe grabbed a shelter brand dog leash from the hook near the door and walked out to go start on daily walks.]

After a bit they put the dog up and Raven went back to looking at the kittens she went right back to the one that was meowing and sticking its paw out of the cage "Can I hold this one?" Raven asked the other lady who was there

[Chloe slightly struggled as she kept control of the four large dogs on leashes. They tugged and tried to run several times but Chloe continued to keep control. She liked going on the walks with dogs. It was calming even if they made it hard. Chloe walked through a park and watched as the younger kids played. The dogs we're definitely happy to be out of the kennels.]
