As a horse trainer, are you wanting to get kid type, ranch horse, or green? If you don't have anyhorse exerience your going to need a very quiet horse and geltal.
.
I would recommend an old ranch horse or kids horse. Old ranch horses are the best thing if you don't know what you are doing and they know rain and foot control. They do it better than a kids horse. (But not always though). Also don't buy from horse dealers unless if you have lots of experience with them and I mean LOTS.
.
Sorry if I went a little to crazy...

How often do you work with horses? How long have you? What does your work entail?

You say it's volunteer work, does that mean you aren't paid? How are you going to raise the money to afford, bedding, insurance, building, vet fees and general horse/living thing?
Sorry for the questions lol

I'm going to be honest, you seem a little ahead of yourself here. By the sound of it, you're still in school correct? And you don't have a paying job, you just do volunteer work? I'm not sure you quite understand just how much a property like that would cost, let alone the upkeep of 6 or more horses. I'm all for people chasing their dreams and doing what they want to do with their lives, but how are you going to afford all of this? A 25 acre ranch with 6 horses and other animals is a full time job in itself, so you would not have time for another full time job. Where would the income come from? You also need to consider your experience levels. Sure, books and articles can be very helpful in figuring out small details but I'd recommend years of hands on experience with horses and trying out a lease for a while before jumping onto this bandwagon of owning a ranch. What if a horse suddenly has a medical emergency and needs surgery or something, do you have the emergency funds for stuff like that? If you have all of the resources, money, and time to take on a huge ranch like this, by all means go for it but make sure you have everything laid out and make sure you can actually afford something as big as this :)
