Bird, I loved my tetras, I believe I had the 2 for 4/5 years? But do be weary when you get them, I originally had 4 but unfortunately we lost 2 very shortly after due to the 'professionals' we talked with I'll informing us on the best amount for our tank!
Hummingbird Meadows
10:15:34 Bird
@charm, I was hoping to keep it less than $500
Versailles
10:15:19 Versa
Should always try our best with animals. Research is worth it
Backwood Barns
10:14:43 Charm's Wubs
Like with anything it takes a lot of research (and it's a bit of an investment) to do things right.

Bettas are definitely able to get away with a 10. I just wouldn't go lower, they explore and swim around way more than people realize
Wings Of Glory

After 3 months of work and almost 20k down the drain my truck will finally be repaired and drivable tomorrow >_< proud of myself for not giving up

Bird, Unfortunately I never got to try a planted tank, but I've heard amazing things! I do really wish I'd had time to lol
Hummingbird Meadows
10:13:39 Bird
For preferably a smaller tank. Less than 20 gallons.
Hummingbird Meadows
10:13:23 Bird
Other than betta fish, what are some good beginner fish?
Dash and Duchess
10:12:09 DD | ~Squizard~
Exactly what charm said! It really makes things easier, and the fish love it too!
Hummingbird Meadows
10:11:48 Bird
@DD, so you have had good luck with plants?
Backwood Barns
10:10:56 Charm's Wubs
I will always recommend planted. It will also help keep your tank clean and water quality higher because plants remove nitrates/nitrites from the fish waste.
Dash and Duchess
10:10:54 DD | ~Squizard~
Versa & Bird, gotta love plants and fishies!

Bird, you should! I made the mistake of not doing one with my tetras and I honestly regret it a bit xD
Backwood Barns
10:08:59 Charm's Wubs
Um, I guess? They're alive, but they're not growing for him. They're only as big as they are because they thrived in my tank. So I guess my advice is to get an established piece?
Hummingbird Meadows
10:08:17 Bird
@DD, yes. I kind of want a betta fish. Trying to decide if I should do a planted tank.
Versailles
10:07:56 Versa
Yes indeed, DD
Backwood Barns
10:07:43 Charm's Wubs
Ironically, he can grow 10-feet long Jungle Val, and as soon as I take a few pieces of it, it dies in my tanks. So it's all about finding the plants that you can maintain and thrive in your tanks!
Hummingbird Meadows
10:07:40 Bird
@Charm, pointless as in easy?
Dash and Duchess
10:07:34 DD | ~Squizard~
Ooo are we talking fish and plants? :D
Backwood Barns

Bird, then you need to have a good piece of driftwood or lava rock to attach it to. But they still grow and require trimming! I have a giant anubias in my 135 that has been growing for 6 years on a large piece of driftwood. I can't seem to kill it, but I'll give pieces to my dad for his tank whenever I need to do maintanance and he can't get them to grow at all. Some pieces that are 3 years old are the same size as when I gave them to him. So... I'm not sure about that. I think they're easy and great plants. If you asked my dad he'd say they're pointless LOL

Not sure if this file is too big, but still.
Here's an overview of how I do roans and I'll explain the steps.
1. Cut out horses and select color scheme ahead of time (Black, White/Tan, and a toned down Blue or Red depending on which roan.)
2. Greyscale the horse
3. Color the entire form with the Blue/Red color.
4. Add black shading (Dark brown for Red roan)
5. Use a speckled brush (Or dotting brush) With white/tan color.
6. Overlay the color onto the greyscaled Horse.
7. Adjust opacity as needed.
(The blue color is rather vibrant, for an actual blue roan it'd need to be more grey.)

I lasso the part I want roan on 20 feather and click turn saturation down and lighten until it meets my expectations.

I do what Purple does essentially, just a few extra steps.

I lasso/select the part of the horse that will have roan.
I then copy and paste that part so it's on a separate layer, so it doesn't mess up the original horse.
Desaturate, dodge and burn as needed to give the muscles definition and add correct lighting.
I then take a soft eraser tool, set the opacity between 30-50%, and erase the hard lines so that the roan blends into the base coat color on the other original layer. Sometimes I'll add dark or lighter flecks to give it a more roan-like texture. If you want to do texture the lazy way, you can add noise at minimal level. It is essentially a static-like appearance.
I then darken the muzzle, hocks and cheeks as desired to give it a better contrast between the body and roan.

Complicated, but that's the best way I've found to do it.
