Is anyone here familiar with liberty work? I'd like to start with my Mustang mare. I've done some research and gained some insight, but if anyone had a few tips for me, i'd love to further my knowledge..

As far as my mare goes, she can be a bit stubborn sometimes, lackadaisical, but she's smart, healthy and works hard when you get her into it. Nevada's a bit older, but physically she is still very capable and "young" looking.

(If anyone wanted to see her, I could post a picture later :)

Anything is appreciated!

I have heard of it, but never done it in person. I watched it being done on a TV show, Heartland. You might watch it just for fun. I picked up a few tricks from it and you might too. I would suggest starting with a lunge line first and gently guiding your mare where you want her to go with a whip.

It's all about body language. I'm assuming shes already started? And you've (ideally) got a round pen?

I'd honestly check out youtube videos and take bits and pieces from each video that YOU like and feel may work for your horse. I don't follow one particular person, but rather a multitude of different people and get nuggets from each of them. There are so many different ways to go about it and each horse is different, even day to day.

Yes, a large arena and round pen, I've worked with her a little on it recently and she's picking it up pretty fast. We generally do some groundwork every time i'm out with her, so when she's paying attention she listens to my cues pretty well. But, yeah I've picked up some different things from a few YouTube videos :)
