It's not safe/cute being young, inexperienced and getting a "small problem horse" that will become a big problem horse.

I'd recommend finding a trainer in your area/leasing a horse/buying an older well "broke"/schooled etc horse.

Cap, it's easier to find your own horse and ride on your own than hire trainers and drive hours out around here. I'm not trying to be cute by getting a small problem horse and I have adults to help me if I were to get one. You can't save all horses but at least you can save one. I'm not wanting a horse that only walks. I want one I can have around the house and ride at a full out run if I want or walk if I want or anything in between.

Unfortunately "small problem" horses are the ones who aren't going to stop after you allow it to run. Which is dangerous.

Theyre the ones who might throw in a few bucks while your running. You like broken bones?

And theyre the ones who might plant you in a tree. Have fun catching your horse as it runs down the road.

It's best you find a well broke horse that can do everything you need it to. You can still find spirited well broke horses....

Problem horses have PROBLEMS. Personalities are not problems. Dangerous habits are problems. You are not equipped to handle dangerous habits.

Leave “small problem horses” to the people who are well equipped to do so. A young person with minimal experience is not the one. You’re not “saving” a horse. You’re putting yourself in a potentially dangerous situation.

I agree with this. Things can spiral really fast and really badly.
Find something SAFE. There's no point in getting a horse if you can't do anything with it because you have a broken leg, arm, or even back/neck from a "small problem" horse.

Edit - Jello has it spot on. My mom got me a green broke pony when I was 8. Literally planted me into a tree and badly broke my arm. I rode horses for 3 years before then, but it didn't matter. I was small, didn't know enough, and could have died.

True
A horse can still have personality and be safe
All horses have their quirks no matter how safe they are but the words “small problem horse” put most people off a horse, unless you know a trainer and would have them train it, I would go for an experienced horse until your older. I have seen way to many teens with injuries due to “small problem horses”
A friend of mine has a large scar the runs underneath his head/chin due to a riding accident with a horse with problems
He still rides that horse but his parents did send it to a trainer
The horse I am talking about only threw bucks under saddle but my friend wasn’t experienced enough to deal with it and all he had to do was fall and get his foot stuck in the stirrup

Okay. I can see where everyone is coming from but my definition of small problem horse is one that maybe needs to be fattened up and you just need to earn it's trust. You all have tour definition and I have my definition.

That's not a problem horse lol that's a horse.
I was thinking of behavioral/training issues.
