Plants don’t add bacteria but they do consume some of the toxins

@Em, that's a good idea. Do the plants add bacteria too?
ZequineZ

Beneficial bacteria can be hit or miss I’ve heard but I personally have had good results with it. If you can steal some established filter media from someone that boosts it too

If you add beneficial bacteria which you can get at pet stores it can make it faster :)

With cycling though you have to take into account a brand new fresh tank can run forever but unless something is put into the system, it will never be cycled because the beneficial bacteria doesn't have anything to feed on

Yeah I did have issues with nitrite for months myself thinking back
Hummingbird Meadows

@Zz, just a month is nothing. I can do that. My research says 10-12 weeks which is like 3 months!

Well if you are wanting just one, a betta is the way to go. They are super friendly and personable and very easy to care for

I second the research. Specifically research the nitrogen cycle. Running it for A week isn’t enough usually. Mine took a month

I think I am just scared of having multiple fish vs just one.

I had them breed back when I had a large angelfish tank lol of course the angels ate the eggs

I would just say overall ALWAYS do your research! Every fish needs something different such as tank size, food. etc. Also some fish don't get along with others. :) Plus what works for one person might not work for another.

Corys are cute but they theyre bottom dwelling, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have something else to hang in the middle
Angels angels

No they are small. You can even get pygmy ones which are really tiny
Hummingbird Meadows
09:13:28 Bird
@Angels, don't they need bigger tanks though?
Insignia Elites
09:13:25 Em
@bird yes! they scavenge the substrate for food! But watching them breed is really inserting! Mine do every so often but the eggs always get eaten. They are considered a bottom dweller :)
Hummingbird Meadows

@Stardust, sounds like she has just had a long day.

Yesss I love corys. I always add them to my tank because they eat leftover food that sinks to the bottom and help reduce ammonia spikes
Star Fields

Ok so this is a genuine question for any parents on HEE - My mom said dinner's ready and I said what are we having. She said chicken, shrimp, and salad. I said what kind of salad and she started freaking out and telling me I'm rude and not supportive. Now here's the question - Is there a reason for this?
Hummingbird Meadows
09:12:28 Bird
Corydoras sound fun too, but evidently they only stay at the bottom of the tank?

I've been working on an updated art style for about two weeks now and I'd love some critiques on my first stage of progress with this. Please no negativity, I'd just love some suggestions and critique on this piece so I can improve :)

I think it looks lovely! I've always enjoyed your art.

My one suggestion would be to add the slightest of high/low lights where body parts get a wee bit hard to differentiate. On this piece I would suggest where the front leg and stomach are kinda blending together. :)

Thank you! This helps a lot.

Gahh oml. Alright, sorry xD I just literally typed out this whole long thing, and then somehow hit a wrong button slid right back onto my previous page -_- stupid mac, lol

Anyways without further complaining, here I go =D

Alright, so I was supposed to start with a "This is super lovely, Toast!" ...or something along those lines, lol. This is great work! Alright, but there's two things I'd love to point out =)

1. I do really think that it would be super awesome if you checked out a few mane tutorials on DA =) I think repainting a lovely mane really finishes pieces off nicely ;) It also adds a bit of uniqueness since everybody paints manes differently xD

2. I'd also love seeing some interesting lighting added =) I love to have my pieces follow an obvious lighting scheme, but even just a more evident source of light would be nice. It would also spruce up the bg a bit, and maybe something like a light vignette would be good ^-^

Just my thoughts! Again, I kinda struggled to type everything like I had it before xD It might be badly worded, but anyways I hope it helps <3 Keep up the great work toast =)

Thank you! I've been thinking about trying to paint manes but they never come out how I'd like, no matter how many tutorials I look at xD I'll try that though as well as the lighting. There is a vignette on there, it's light though.

Mhmm, haha =)

I actually have struggled sooo much with hair, lol, and all the DA tutorials made it look super easy and then mine came out as crap xD So I honestly just played around myself until I finally found something that looked decent and had some potential if I refined the style a bit and such... but yea, feel free to PM me if you need any help with stuff like pesky hair x)

It looks wonderful but the glow around the horse could be slightly less intense and the horse seems a little too smudged but I love it! Looks amazing

It looks great! Only thing I would look into is manes (As mentioned above) But I love the strong glow around the horse! It's personally a style I really like.
