i was initially going to be a vet but once i was old enough to assist the vet when she came out for the horses, and i saw the reality of loss in real time, i couldnt fathom the guilt of that loss being mine to bear even if there was nothing else to be done.

i didn't want to become jaded or cynical the way so many medical professionals/first responders do. power to the people who have that kind of courage

That's why I'm going to vet school. I want people to be able to trust me to care for their animals. I hate it when people who work with animals say 'Oh, it's nothing', when, clearly, there is something wrong.

The first decent one we have found is an hour drive. Thats how bad our vets are. My mom even drove an hour to get a second opinion from another vet and they are good as well

The vet my sister took her dog to to get neutered did a botch job. He had one testical that never dropped so they had to do surgery to get it out and they sewed him up super super jacked and crooked. He also ended up getting a huge infection and they ended up having to spend thousands of dollars and take him up to an emergency vet an hour away like everyday for a couple weeks for treatments

unfortunately they are around here too, i've got a couple of good vets i trust but they stay busy in a rural area with their good reputation. a lot of other rural vets at least in my area are either all about the livestock and can be dismissive with domestic pets or visa versa. hard to find one that can do both.

Yeah there is this one vet clinic in the town i grew up in that is known for being horrible. They will put animals down for no reason, overdose animals, do unnecessary surgeries, and more

The vet we used to get Dede seen was super nice, very knowledgeable and cared. They are walk ins only and you have to sit in your car and wait but they are one of the best places I have been

My fiances mom took their rabbit to this one vet we all liked going to for all out animals. The rabbit had eaten a sewing needle and had to have surgery. Well they didn't even give the rabbit antibiotics and when he ended up getting an absess a week later they said they have to make an appointment (which would take like two months) in order to get any antibiotics. .-. We don't like them anymore lol

They charge $75 for an office visit and according to my mom they didnt even touch him when she told them something was wrong

We used to go to them until they started charging ridiculous amounts and the care went down. After what happened to my mom we definitely wont be back.

If anyone knows anything about me, it's that I love books. I'm always reading something, and my TBR list is probably at least 10 miles high. When I need to be somewhere else for a bit, if I'm frustrated, or just simply bored, books have always had my back and been one of the few constants in this ever changing world. Especially during times like this, when the majority of the world is still under quarantine and many are unable to leave their homes or see their loved ones in person, books can be not only a form of positive escapism, but also a way to keep us company during such uncertain times.
I also know that I am not alone in this feeling!

This is a thread for all book lovers! Post about your favorite books, recommend books to others, discuss scenes, rant about how movies are nothing like the books, ask for recommendations, etc... , but please, no spoilers! (Or at least clearly mark in bold/bright colors/large font that your post contains spoilers for specific books)

All genres are welcome, as well as all reading levels!

I just ask that you all follow a few simple rules, to ensure that this thread stays as friendly as possible;
1) Follow all HEE Chat Rules.
2) If you are going to include spoilers, please at the top of your post include something along the lines of "This post contains SPOILERS for (insert book name) ". Even if it is a series as well known as Harry Potter, please include this. Not everyone has read the book you are talking about, and being spoiled is the absolute worst!
3) Remember; Your opinions are just Opinions. They are not your passions. It is ok to be passionate about your beliefs, but if you disagree with someone's opinion, please don't get into an argument trying to prove to them that their opinion is wrong. We book lovers tend to have strong opinions, but that doesn't mean that your opinion is the only opinion someone can have. You may respectfully disagree, but don't take someone's disagreement as a personal offence.
4) As much as we all love fanfics, this is not a forum to advertise for your fanfics or wattpad stories, etc... . This is to discuss PUBLISHED WORKS.
5) Please, stay on the topic of books. This is not a place to RP or anything else.

Hi, I'm Skye! I am an avid fantasy and sci-fi reader, although I do enjoy other genres as well!

What I'm currently reading: I'm currently reading about 6 different books, but my favorites at the moment are Aurora Burning by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff, Chain of Gold by Cassandra Claire, Thrawn by Timothy Zahn (the 1st book of the Disney-cannon Thrawn), and The Heros of Olympus: The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan
I'm annoyed at myself for not reading Percy Jackson when I was younger, these books are great!

My favorite Series: Throne of Glass

My favorite Book: probably Six of Crows

My top recommendations:
-Throne of Glass (New Adult high fantasy, Sarah J Maas)
-Percy Jackson (Youth fantasy, Rick Riordan)
-The Nevernight Chronicles (New Adult/Adult high fantasy trilogy, Jay Kristoff)
-A Darker Shade of Magic (New Adult/Adult Fantasy/Sci-Fi, V.E.Schwab)
-Children of Blood and Bone (YA Fantasy, Tomi Adeyemi)
-Six of Crows (YA Fantasy, Leigh Bardugo)
-The Illuminae Files (YA Sci-Fi, Jay Kristoff and Amy Kauffman)
-An Ember in the Ashes (YA Fantasy, Sabaa Tahir)

Finally! Thank you Skye, I was actually thinking about this yesterday myself :)

This Post Includes SPOILERS about Lord Of The Rings (The Return Of The King)

I'm currently reading Lord Of The Rings, and I just *love* it. The language, the cultures, the beautiful description, the way Tolkien writes emotions, literally everything! Fantasy is by far my favourite genre, so this is a scoop of heaven for me. (I'm currenty at page 850 or so, so please don't spoil anything for me :D)

When Theoden died...Dx. I don't know, I just loved Merry and his relationship so much. I had to sit in silence, in the dark for a while just to grieve him. Uggh. And then how they were going to go back and Merry would tell him about herblore and hobbit ancestry and just D:. Beautifully written death scene, though.

Currently reading the Mistborn trilogy (the original trilogy). I one hundred percent recommend it! Planning on trying Throne Of Glass after Mistborn.

^ I haven't read Mistborn, but I love a lot of Sanderson's other works. The Reckoners series is a super fun superhero story, and they're still coming out but his new Skyward series is one of my favorite sci-fis. He handles plot and humor so so wel .

If I'm not mistaken, is that not the new Hunger Games spinoff book?
