Hey, I was just wondering what tier my art would fit into? I use my MacBook Pro's trackpad and GIMP/FireAlpaca, so drawing manes/tails is a little tricky - although I am looking into iPad software etc. Here are some of my most recent examples:
Golden-Girl-Art.png
Appy-horse-Avi.png
Bay-Horse-Cantering-500x500-1.png

PP-500x500.png

I was thinking Tier 2, but I want a second opinion and what price ranges would you recommend?

I'd say mid to high Tier 2. Best way to figure out prices is to pice a price and see how busy you are. To busy means to low of a price.

Personally I'm gonna say around 50-65k. I'll update this later tonight with more detail as to why when I'm not typing on my phone

I rarely like to base Tiers based on how busy/how high or low the price is. As I say to others- confidence is the absolute key before moving up <3 How confident are you in body prep, grounding, and making the horse blend with the background? If you feel comfortable with these things, then T2 is the spot for you! If you're feeling like you still need practice, then T3 is a perfectly okay place to be, even if you have something borderline T2 pricing to prevent an overflow of orders in your shop. The higher the Tier you are, the more people will expect from you, if that makes sense. Move when you feel ready, not when others tell you to! :)
.
** I should add- while you can stray a little, as Tiers are labeled as an average pricing (not set in stone), don't go too far beyond what a person browsing that Tier would expect. It may cause some upset.

Yeah, I have been trying to price my pieces at around 50-70k, and most have sold within a day or two - the Appaloosa piece was AB'd for 250k!

Yup, I'm on my phone right now too! That was the price range I am currently at, good to hear others think it is a good price!

I think I can do shadows and reflections well, my lighting still needs work and getting horses to blend into grass (for example) can be challenging. I currently smudge for my body prep then add shadows and hilights, but I am trying repainting the horse instead of smudging, and I think it looks alright, and it gives a cleaner effect that smudging.
This is really great advice guys, thank you so much! <33

Shadows and reflections are a beautiful start! <3 White markings are another thing you should consider before moving anywhere. T2 is where those start to become important. :)

I definitely recommend reading this thread that Bell made awhile ago!
Now onto why I think that price range, since I believe it can be a way to help you improve.
1. The main problem I'm seeing in your art is a slight lack of body prep that enhances the stock you have chosen to use to fit together. In every piece, it's more like you stamped a horse on, and slightly erased the hooves to look like grounding. The appaloosa is probably the best one out of the bunch, however I would have added more colors in the highlights and shadows to make it fit more, but the lighting for it is good.
2. The hair needs work. What you are doing now is like a first step in creating hair. There needs to be direction, randomness and a bit of color variation. The mane on the pegasus piece is quite well done compared to the other pieces. Most of the pieces just look like you dragged the tail and mane with a brush in the same direction everytime. Hair naturally has waves to it and movement. As well as random hair strands that are in the uniform body of the rest of the hair.
3. Shadows need work as well as grounding. Understanding how light and shadows works will greatly help with understanding where to place a shadow. However, you seem to have a good understanding, it just needs a little more work with grounding involved. Shadows are almost never clear cut like how you have them, there's usually a fuzzier outline the further away the shadow goes from it's source.

Ooh, thanks! I will keep this in mind when making art. Hair is a struggle for me, as I am using a programme with limited brushes, but I am making my first piece in GIMP, and this piece is turning out much better! I also am very keen on getting a drawing tablet, as I hope it would make drawing in general easier for me, as drawing with a trackpad isn't the easiest...
