@Em, that's a good idea. Do the plants add bacteria too?

Beneficial bacteria can be hit or miss I’ve heard but I personally have had good results with it. If you can steal some established filter media from someone that boosts it too

If you add beneficial bacteria which you can get at pet stores it can make it faster :)

With cycling though you have to take into account a brand new fresh tank can run forever but unless something is put into the system, it will never be cycled because the beneficial bacteria doesn't have anything to feed on

Yeah I did have issues with nitrite for months myself thinking back

@Zz, just a month is nothing. I can do that. My research says 10-12 weeks which is like 3 months!

Well if you are wanting just one, a betta is the way to go. They are super friendly and personable and very easy to care for

I second the research. Specifically research the nitrogen cycle. Running it for A week isn’t enough usually. Mine took a month

I think I am just scared of having multiple fish vs just one.

I had them breed back when I had a large angelfish tank lol of course the angels ate the eggs

I would just say overall ALWAYS do your research! Every fish needs something different such as tank size, food. etc. Also some fish don't get along with others. :) Plus what works for one person might not work for another.

Corys are cute but they theyre bottom dwelling, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have something else to hang in the middle

No they are small. You can even get pygmy ones which are really tiny
Hummingbird Meadows

@Angels, don't they need bigger tanks though?
Insignia Elites
09:13:25 Em
@bird yes! they scavenge the substrate for food! But watching them breed is really inserting! Mine do every so often but the eggs always get eaten. They are considered a bottom dweller :)

Yesss I love corys. I always add them to my tank because they eat leftover food that sinks to the bottom and help reduce ammonia spikes

Ok so this is a genuine question for any parents on HEE - My mom said dinner's ready and I said what are we having. She said chicken, shrimp, and salad. I said what kind of salad and she started freaking out and telling me I'm rude and not supportive. Now here's the question - Is there a reason for this?
Hummingbird Meadows
09:12:28 Bird
Corydoras sound fun too, but evidently they only stay at the bottom of the tank?

"Ack! What did you just say?" Alice scolded, annoyed but not angry at Sage's remark. She really disliked this man but enjoyed his attitude as he made it slightly more amusing to 'lightly' pick on him. But that also left the question of how.. Alice obviously didn't know a thing about him, which upset her slightly but enough.
Down below, the Doctor had finished wrapping and tending to Harlow's wounds. "Since I tended to everyone, may you please bring the prisoner down? He seemed a tad pale." Asked the Doctor with a smile, "He's not a prisoner. He's a Sage." Harlow laughed quietly, respectfully making fun of the man before nodding and slipping on his undershirt and coat and moving up the stairs. The sun blinded him momentarily once he reached the main deck and the sudden smell of the fresh air was peaceful compared to the smell of blood from down below. His blue eyes scanned the area before seeing Alice and Sage, so he sighed and made his way over, only to be stopped by a crewmember who asked where a few items went, which Harlow took his time telling and explaining why that specific stuff goes in that specific area before dismissing the man.
Eventually he made it to them, immediately seeing that Alice was upset and deep in thought and Sage bound, beads of scarlet peeking through the rope. A pang of guilt washed through Harlow as he saw the condition of Sage, but he swallowed it momentarily before drawing a dagger and moving to slice the rope that tied his hands together at the wrist before sheathing the weapon. "The Doctor wanted to help you with your wounds." He said with a soft smile, although it faded rather quickly once his eyes flicked to the other man's ears, causing him to turn away slowly and begin walking toward the staircase that led down.

Sage had felt a small glimmer of satisfaction form in his chest when the woman seemed annoyed by his comment. It wasn't as much as he might have initially liked, but I'd was something. And it had gotten her to shut up for the most part, so he wasn't too upset. Of course, now she was just staring at him, which made him slightly uncomfortable....so he placed a careful expression of cocky boredom onto his face and rested his head against the mast he was tied to.

Of course, when he heard someone coming towards him, he opened his eyes slowly, somewhat surprised to see the captain coming. He knew he'd have shown up sooner or later, but he certainly hadn't expected him to take bonds off and bring him to a doctor right away. His eyebrows shot upwards at his comments, but allowed the other man to tug him to his feet and guide him below.

He was still bound with chains, but with the ropes gone nothing was biting into his skin like that. He was bleeding a bit, he could feel it, but that was ok. Well....not ok, but he'd manage. And now he could figure out how to pick them and get out of here. But the man was gentle....and it was quite unexpected. He didn't even have a good comment to slide his way, so he just scoffed softly as he was moved.

It wasn't long before the doctor had grabbed him though, sitting him down just as gently on a barrel and moving to slide his shirt off. He didn't exactly enjoy the other captain nor his crew seeing the injuries he'd down his best to hide ....but oh well. He didn't really have a say. "But eager to get my shirt off aren't you," he sort of grumbled, though he wasn't sure who it was aimed to, the doctor or the other man watching him closely. But he had plenty of wounds that needed to be treated - a bullet in a shoulder, plenty of wounds from a sword or dagger, and many more bumps and bruises scattered around. There were plenty of old marks too....brands that marked him as a pirate and murderer and thief, old marks from whips along his back and shoulders, old sword wounds, and that sort of thing. It was pretty clear he was battle hardened, despite his young age. He knew how to handle one. And he could be dangerous if he chose to be.

Harlow was kind enough to allow Dage to get treated, and yet the man made a distasteful comment, causing Harlow's eyes to twitch out of slight annoyance. "Oh! If Harlow wasn't so nice I would've slit your throat by now!" The old Doctor scolded wrapping a cloth bandage on the man, "Excuse me? I don't think threats are a stable way to tell someone you hat or dislike them." Harlow said calmly, turning his back to Sage and the old man momentarily before turning his head. "Fine. You." He nearly jabbed his frail finger onto Sage's forehead before speaking again, "I don't like you, in fact, I despise you... momentarily." He scoffed, turning to grab some other ointment. "Great job. I have to make sure the crew is fine, once your finished with Sage I'll take him. If I'm not free, ask Alice." He said with a partial smile as he walked away, but before he ascended the stairs he turned to speak again. "Please don't start anything with my Doctor. He's to old and he bites." He joked, although only he and the Doctor laughed at their inside joke.
The blonde's laughter faded as he breached the deck and immediately got to work with giving orders and helping the somewhat newer crewmembers navigate around the large ship. "What are you going to put what's his face once the doctor is done with him?" Alice asked with a sweet tone despite her bitter words. "Sage?" Harlow asked and corrected. "Yeah, him." She answered with a eyeroll. "I'll put him in my quarters for tonight I guess since all the wounded have taken up most to all of the spare areas." He explained thoughtfully to the woman. "You can't be serious! What if he steals somethin, or takes something valuable and escapes?" Alice yelled softly, making sure no one else would overhear. Suddenly Harlow turned to Alice, squaring onto her almost immediately. "Don't raise your voice at me to scold and don't doubt me. I know what I'm doing. I've done this before." He said harshly, although, only his voice intensified as he never intended to raise it. With a sigh and a simple apology Harlow moved away and began helping his crewmembers.
