Granny,
I always name horses unless I absolutely hate the look of them. If it's a good name, I have all my good names on a online notepad

I tend to name a horse, after they are rated.
Like, why waste a good name, on a horse I might not keep.

Yeah what Imp said it is tracked training, like the training bars. It is how you match horses to get good foals. You need the mare and stallions weaknesses and strengths the balance each other out :)

I've got to ask because I see it all too often and I'm clueless; what do the numbers in a horses biography signify?

Aiye!

So something I'm possibly persuing that I haven't mentioned much to y'all yet is farrier work. The guy that does my horses' feet is an absolute boss and has offered to teach me how to do it on my own horses so I can see if it's really something I want to do or may be good at. I currently have four hooves under my belt for trimming and hope to do more in the near future. This guy'll even teach me to do shoes if I get good enough with barefoot!

Now, of course an official education as a farrier / getting licensed is a must-have if I'm going into the industry. If I really do decide this is what I'm going to do then I will be looking into going to the same school my farrier went to. He's told me a lot about how it runs and it seems like the perfect place for me.

But, for the mean time, I just want to study the art of hooves on my own for a bit. Get a better understanding of their anatomy, the forces applied to them, desirable and undesirable angles/lengths, shape types, etc.. So I come to the forums in hopes someone has a good informational page for me to look at!

Anything related to hooves/lower legs and their effects on the body/movement is welcome here. Doesn't have to be something extravagant.

Thanks in advance!

Good for you! I'm a registered farrier with the BWFA and love doing it. I'll see if I can find some sites for you. Best thing for me was just being familiar with what a horses hooves should look like, and actually getting out and trimming. I learned from a master farrier, and they can administer the tests needed to get licensed. Don't know which association you're going with but that's how it is with the BWFA
