Her voice was soft, almost distant, still a little shaky. The idea of seeing a doctor made something twist in her chest—not quite fear, but uncertainty. It’s scary.” She leaned her head against his shoulder. “But I’m glad I’ve got you. If I have to go through something weird, at least I’m not doing it alone.” |

The warmth of it settled something in her chest, just enough to push through the lingering nausea and fear. “Yeah… yeah, that sounds like a good idea,” she murmured. “I don’t want to just sit around and wonder anymore.” She glanced up at him, her eyes soft but tired. “Thanks for taking care of me… even when I’m being a total mess.” A small smile tugged at her lips, and she pressed a gentle kiss to his jaw. “I’ll call now, just… stay close, okay?” |

Her fingers trembled just a little as she tapped in the doctor’s number. Even as the phone rang, she kept her other hand tucked into his, grounding herself. No matter what the doctor said—no matter what was coming—she had him. That made all the difference. |
