I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to breeding in HEE and I was wondering how to know when to geld a stallion and when to keep him as a stud. I'm almost too afraid to geld the stallions I have because I feel like they may eventually produce something good, but I think because I don't geld them, my foal ratings are getting lower and lower. I've been looking through the forum to figure out how to properly match horses but the whole thing just kind of confuses me.

Stallions are very subjective to what is good and what is not. So just take what I have to say with a grain of salt :)

Stallions are a lot different from mares in breeding, of course. Stallions, if all straws and LCs are used, can produce around 750 (If I remember correctly) foals. Higher rated stallions are therefore plentiful in the amount of foals they can produce compared to mares, which means they are less valuable.

Anything with an S (Unless you do SD) gets gelded instantly, not ifs or buts. PPPs are exactly the same. PEPs rarely get to stay in any barn, unless it is used for a quest. Even then, they hold little value as the color/rating can likely be found somewhere else for cheap. Normally these go instantly, except special occasions.

PEE are very touchy. Some keep them, some don't. For me, pedigree is very much a factor in deciding if they are worth keeping or not. That and color. Training is also important - No more than one down week five, all up six. You may simply use these guys for quests and breeding with lower rated broodmares, however a poor producer with little color, no pedigree, etc., gets gelded. They hardly bring in enough money to support, so unless you are keeping them for the reasons above, it is probably best to sell/geld (Unless they make LBs).

EEE is another touchy one. Personally, I always keep them and test them, no matter the pedigree. If they produce poorly, I would suggest either using them as a stud for newer stables or selling opposed to breeding. However, if he is complete rubbish, gelding is likely the best way to go.

Ok thank you so much for that. It seems like I'm doing a lot wrong XD
I only have maybe one or two stallions that produce well out of the 16 I have.

Taking a look, i'd train in all disciplines. It gives an idea of if the horse is actually strong, as well as where it is strong :)

this is my general advise on "to geld or not to geld"

<font class="mainline">This is easy to answer in each case with one question:

Do YOU think that this boy will be able to really improve yor stable rating or color wise (in 2 gameyears for a colt) - or do you think there are other boys out there for brood, decent in price and more obviousely the better producers than this one....

No matter what you are breeding for and not matter if you are a new or experienced stable.
No matter which rating the horse has or which color genetics.
No matter what you are told in chat or by your friends.

A show gelding can win up to 350k and more in his lifetime and is the best support your stable can have ;)

But its always up to YOU and your way of gameplay if you want to geld or keep intact :D
