My mare hasn't been producing as well as I'd like her to and I think part of that is due to the fact that I can't usually afford big fancy items for her. (the only ones I use are the medallions I get from quests) She gives me a few decent foals here and there but they're usually colts! By breeding my mare to a stallion with such an amazing breeding record, hopefully my luck with her will turn around. This would also domino effect my other mares, and allow me to properly care for them and not kick them to the side as i've had too recently, with only lower studs and maybe a glass.
