So I have been wanting to start doing digital art, and I was wondering what everyone here uses or recommends for art apps. I would prefer it to be free or at least very cheap, as I will mostly be using it for fun. I'm very new to digital art so a beginner-friendly app would be nice. Currently I'm hoping to do some adopts, so all I'd really need to do for that is fill in lineart. It will be on an iPad and I'm hoping to get a stylus or apple pencil too. It would be nice to hear people's thoughts and pros and cons for different apps. Thank you! Poll Question: Which art app should I get?Total Votes: 18

Hey so I do non-manip work so my opinion isn't really the best for this site, disclaimer. I have no experience with manip work. I used Sketchbook for 7~8 years before switching to Procreate. Procreate was $13 and sketchbook has a small premium bundle for $3, both of which I have. Sketchbook has a pc version as well which is much more diverse from what I've seen, but I don't use pc to draw. Procreate is missing a symmetry feature and a couple other things I'm used to on Sketchbook but it was an upgrade for me personally. I still sketch in sketchbook when its more convenient but its 90% on Procreate now. I got an apple pen ~3 years ago, I highly recommend it. :] I know people who do stuff with just their mouse/trackpad/finger though, it's not necessary. I just liked the pen upgrade personally. I've tried ibis/medibang but as soon as I got 1 ad, I deleted it lmaoo. It's not for me but I know plenty of folks who use it. I'm not familiar with its IAPs. if you're on an ipad ibispaint 100%! it's free, even the 'premuim' features are avaliable if you watch an ad every 4(?) hours. you can import brushes from other creators and it's a really easy interface to use! i used it for manips for a few years, and i liked it a lot. I love ibis paint! I paid once for the unlimited time and features, but it's 100% worth it, all the other apps I've tried I've struggled immensely with lol

For what youre interested in, I think Ibis Paint would be a great option its super beginner friendly, great for doing linework and coloring it in, etc and its free Firealpaca and Medibang paint pro are also great, a little bit more to learn, but great for coloring and painting. all are free to use :D
