First off, I was The Mothman in this year's Artist Rumble. I am not going to be selling my art pieces from the competition because I don't really like them, and I don't feel like I did a great job with them, so I don't really feel like they are worth anything at this point. Since I don't feel great about them, I would love some advice and critique on the pieces I did to hopefully better myself as an artist! The art(some of them, mainly Round 2, are massive images so please open them in a new tab to full see them): Preliminary Round: Round 1: Round 2: Round 3: Edited at August 4, 2025 03:50 PM by ShiningStar Stables

Based on the pieces here, I think your biggest next step is to decide what your style looks like. Across those four, they all display various styles with Round 1 and 2 being very similar to each other but completely different from prelim and 3. Once you decide which style you want to embrace, that'll make it much easier to give general feedback because right now, you don't have a set style to give general feedback on haha. The one thing that is consistent across 1, 2, and 3 is your mane style. I really like what you're doing with the various shades and they're giving you some great depth. I also like that you've got some swoop going on. However, I'd like to see more defined chunks of hair that flow differently or curve/twist/turn as opposed to all of the hair going in the same general direction. Overall, I think you have incredibly creative ideas and I'm excited to see where you go from here!! <3

Honestly, I haven't really felt like I have found one that I like how it looks so I kind of just wing it and yeet stuff together every time I do art, which does not tend to work very well... I much preferred working on entry 1 and 2 to working on the Prelim and entry 3. The idea was to make entry 3 similar to the two before it but I couldn't figure out how to get the color to work without completely repainting it(which did NOT go well lol). I have been trying to figure out the hair recently and I do think I have the color figured out, mostly, but I definitely don't have the flow down, I will continue to work on that on my next piece! Thank you for all of the advice <3 Gem said: Based on the pieces here, I think your biggest next step is to decide what your style looks like.
