Oh thats so good! My guy isnt quite "lob a blanket on" level yet but its so rewarding watching how confident they can become

Absolutely haha. I'm really proud of him though- he arrived at the end of May vaguely leadable but pretty much feral and had to live in the field shelter for a week. Now he's out in the field with no headcollar 24/7 and I can lob a rug onto him while he's loose without him lifting his head

Yeah Boulder so relatable. I try to let my horse initiate touch and the things we do whenever possible. Like take the extra five minutes to let her walk up to me in the field instead of going out and getting her, pause when she turns her head away when brushing, etc. It changes the game truly and has honestly completely changed how I go about life in general, for the better. Horses have so little autonomy in our world so the little things like that we can do means so much to them. When I’m bridling a horse or anything like that I notice that they will maybe seem like they’re saying no initially by turning away or something. If you notice and respect that a lot of the time they will immediately put their nose in after, where if you had tried to chase after them it probably would escalate. That whole philosophy just means a lot to me

Speaking of training
- I saw incredible training with Dan of Double Dan
What he can do with horses is amazing
I was enthralled with the Road To The Horse exhibition

Typical gangly teenage boy XD

Haha I'll put a bit less pressure on myself then thank you. I'm hoping to get some poles before the end of the year so we can do some proprioception work because my goodness that boy doesn't know where his feet are xD Plus side is he doesn't mind things being around his legs whatsoever since he's so used to wandering into things

No lines, and no chasing. You just don't know our way and I'll leave it at that.

I wasn't a super fan of Warwick until I saw an article heading that said something like Let Your Horse Approach You
(Yes literally only read the title)
And it's made a Huge improvement in my interactions with the horses at the barn.
I can have the stall door open and have them between me at it (huge outdoor pen) and they will chose to come to me and boop my hand without any interaction besides standing still.

And I saw a video where he said don't touch the horse until they touch you and they will tell you where to touch

(Some of it feels woowoo, but it's making a difference in the relationships between the horses and I)

Yeah of course, it’s definitely a trust the process kind of exercise you have to be patient and you’ll feel like you’re not doing anything but worth it. I enjoy when training feels more collaborative with our animal friends, worth the time it takes

Awww good pony! It just sounds like typical laziness/not being confident enough to carry himself forward. He'll get there!

Ooh I'll have a look at that one, thanks Red!

Haha exactly Puck! I'm hoping the more we go out the more keen he'll be to get on with it. He's a very good chap overall- and he's even happy to walk out in front of Minnie if I've got someone to lead her. He met his first tractor last night and was a 10/10 brave boy bless him

Unless your lunge lunge is 200 feet long it's gonna be a small circle lol

And no chasing, showing them who’s boss, etc. necessary. I really don’t enjoy having to do that kind of thing and good news, you really basically never have to XD

I said nothing about small circles, but whatever.
We have a different view of how to do things with 2 yr olds.

I really like Warwick Schiller’s “leading with energy” exercise for staying in the right position/responsiveness when leading, my mate was so “lazy” seeming and wanted to be directly behind me while leading, would pin her ears and swish tail when asked to go forward, it worked incredibly well
Minerva
01:31:33 Min
To be honest the maximum I'd ever lunge any horse is like 20 minutes, and that would be their entire work for the day. It has it's place but isn't my preferred method for anything

Min, he sounds like my pony! Just needs to learn a little responsibility about walking forward instead of being dragged every step 😂

Yeah it'd hurt, small circles are the worst for babies. Great way to do damage to their joints. And chasing a horse on the line isnt exactly the best way to establish you're in charge 🙃

Sage hadn't known whether she'd stayed or not until he woke next ...and whatever she'd chosen to do he'd have accepted, but even so, to wake up with her there and her arms around him calmed him. His dreams weren't exactly the best, and while he was used to having nightmares, they were getting worse again, and having her there just helped. "Hey," he sort of croaked, closing his eyes again, still just groggy enough to go back to sleep once his heart stopped racing and the images faded from his mind a little bit more. But he also wanted to stay there, with her. Where he knew what was happening, and he wasn't quite awake enough for his mind to grasp hold of all the bad things or the blood dripping from the ceiling or the way peoples faces sometimes turned to the faces of his nightmares. It was unsettling, but when he wasn't quite awake and wasn't quite asleep, neither those or nightmares could happen. He was simply ...there. With her. He liked it that way, he thought. It was simple. Quiet.

Mari stayed next to him for... well, ages. She wasn't gonna move until he woke up. She didn't want to leave and have him wake up terrified. That was the last thing she wanted for him. She offered him a gentle smile when he woke up, and sort of squeezed the hand she was still holding in what she hoped to be a comforting way. "Hey," she replied gently, her brows pinging together. She stayed quiet as he started drifting off again, and moved to wrap her hand a bit tighter around his. She just wanted him to feel... okay. He could sleep for as long as he wanted. She'd already arranged to talk to Anya about all of his. Sage had had it bad, but... there were people who were probably still going through it. Sage wasn't the only one struggling. He wasn't the only one that had been struggling. They needed to find who was the leader in all of this, and help anyone else that they might have missed. Sage was right, though... their Queen needed to come see to her subjects. Show them they cared at least a little.

Sage felt a smile drift across his face as she spoke up, sort of squeezing her hand gently even though he was sort of just drifting off again. He woke up a bit later, not long after that really....maybe an hour or so had gone by. He let go of Maris hand so he could shift himself into a more sitting position, giving her a soft smile before moving to rub his eyes and then face to wake up a bit more.

Mari pulled her hand away when he decided he'd had enough, and soon enough just flashed him a bit of a smile. She hoped he was alright... he didn't really have a sleep schedule any more. it was just a case of wake up and hope he could last through the day. He didn't do it often, but whatever. She gave a small sigh when he'd smiled at her, and leaned in to peck his cheek. "How you feeling?" She asked carefully, her brows punched together.

Sage hummed softly in response to her comments, a soft shrug rolling his shoulders. "Better," he hummed quietly, voice still thick with sleep. "Although I'm still pretty drugged up so I think just some sleep has been helpful," he added with a sort of yawn, shifting to face her slightly, a smile forming on his face in response to her peck. He knew she was worried, and that things could very well have ended badly ..they still could, possibly. But he felt alright. He was healing. And their family was safe. That was all that matters.

Mari smiled slightly when he rolled over, and moved to run a hand through a few bits of his hair that had fallen out of his bun. "Better is good," she whispered softly after a few moments, her smile growing just a little bit bigger. All she needed was for him to feel a little bit better. So much could still go so wrong, and she wasn't excited for the mental toll this would definitely be taking on him later... but for now it was fine. "I think the plan is to keep you drugged up for another few days, but... we'll see," she breathed quietly.

Sage hummed softly in agreement to her comments, just settling down and letting her mess with his hair. He noticed how she relaxed when he spoke though, and sort of just gave her a small smile, alibet a still tired one. "I think that sounds like a great plan," he mused, voice laced with amusement. He certainly wasn't looking forward to feeling what being shot in the chest was like. In the moment, he'd sort of just gone numb. He really wasn't excited to feel it now. "The doctor will know what's best," he added softly, just moving to reach for her hand and lightly entwine his fingers around hers.

Camery glanced down at him as he took her hand, and nodded carefully. She just wanted to make sure he was comfortable. The doctor would too... he'd mentioned that Sage would feel like death once the pain meds wore off. She didn't know what to think about it all. The second he started hurting, he'd just start feeling bad for himself. It was understandable, but he needed to stay in the right mind. She squeezed his hand tight and gave a bit of a hum. "He does," She chirped softly. "Can you imagine what it's gonna feel like if it wares off?" She asked with a small chuckle.

Sage sort of wrinkled his nose with a chuckle in response to Maris comment. "I sort of don't want to know," he mused, voice laced with amusement. The thing was, he could imagine what it would feel like. He'd been shot before, and taken hits to the chest, and combining those two things seemed pretty much like what he'd feel like after. That combined with not being at a healthy state to begin with....well, he wasn't eager to find out how much it really hurt. It was a vaguely amusing thought though, since he knew the doctor would keep him as comfortable as possible.

Mari nodded in agreement after a few moments. She couldn't imagine how painful it'd be. And with the state of him now, he wasn't healing any time soon. She just tried another small smile, her lips pressing together slightly. "Neither. I don't want to deal with you when you're grumpy and in pain," she teased him, gently, pecking his forehead before huffing out a breath. "Can I get you anything? We need to re dress your wounds later on... the doctor has some stuff that should help them heal and - oh! You need to eat," she mused lightly to him. She'd promised him the night before that she'd try and make something a little bit nicer for him... but that was a later job. She knew he wasn't the best at eating first thing on the best of days.
