Yeah Boulder so relatable. I try to let my horse initiate touch and the things we do whenever possible. Like take the extra five minutes to let her walk up to me in the field instead of going out and getting her, pause when she turns her head away when brushing, etc. It changes the game truly and has honestly completely changed how I go about life in general, for the better. Horses have so little autonomy in our world so the little things like that we can do means so much to them. When I’m bridling a horse or anything like that I notice that they will maybe seem like they’re saying no initially by turning away or something. If you notice and respect that a lot of the time they will immediately put their nose in after, where if you had tried to chase after them it probably would escalate. That whole philosophy just means a lot to me

Speaking of training
- I saw incredible training with Dan of Double Dan
What he can do with horses is amazing
I was enthralled with the Road To The Horse exhibition
Silver Melody Acres

Typical gangly teenage boy XD

Haha I'll put a bit less pressure on myself then thank you. I'm hoping to get some poles before the end of the year so we can do some proprioception work because my goodness that boy doesn't know where his feet are xD Plus side is he doesn't mind things being around his legs whatsoever since he's so used to wandering into things

No lines, and no chasing. You just don't know our way and I'll leave it at that.

I wasn't a super fan of Warwick until I saw an article heading that said something like Let Your Horse Approach You
(Yes literally only read the title)
And it's made a Huge improvement in my interactions with the horses at the barn.
I can have the stall door open and have them between me at it (huge outdoor pen) and they will chose to come to me and boop my hand without any interaction besides standing still.

And I saw a video where he said don't touch the horse until they touch you and they will tell you where to touch

(Some of it feels woowoo, but it's making a difference in the relationships between the horses and I)

Yeah of course, it’s definitely a trust the process kind of exercise you have to be patient and you’ll feel like you’re not doing anything but worth it. I enjoy when training feels more collaborative with our animal friends, worth the time it takes

And seconding Warwick Schiller, he's one of the few clinicians I really respect.

Awww good pony! It just sounds like typical laziness/not being confident enough to carry himself forward. He'll get there!

Ooh I'll have a look at that one, thanks Red!
Minerva
01:34:16 Min
Haha exactly Puck! I'm hoping the more we go out the more keen he'll be to get on with it. He's a very good chap overall- and he's even happy to walk out in front of Minnie if I've got someone to lead her. He met his first tractor last night and was a 10/10 brave boy bless him

Unless your lunge lunge is 200 feet long it's gonna be a small circle lol

And no chasing, showing them who’s boss, etc. necessary. I really don’t enjoy having to do that kind of thing and good news, you really basically never have to XD

I said nothing about small circles, but whatever.
We have a different view of how to do things with 2 yr olds.

I really like Warwick Schiller’s “leading with energy” exercise for staying in the right position/responsiveness when leading, my mate was so “lazy” seeming and wanted to be directly behind me while leading, would pin her ears and swish tail when asked to go forward, it worked incredibly well
Minerva
01:31:33 Min
To be honest the maximum I'd ever lunge any horse is like 20 minutes, and that would be their entire work for the day. It has it's place but isn't my preferred method for anything

Min, he sounds like my pony! Just needs to learn a little responsibility about walking forward instead of being dragged every step 😂
FirstLightFarms

Yeah it'd hurt, small circles are the worst for babies. Great way to do damage to their joints. And chasing a horse on the line isnt exactly the best way to establish you're in charge 🙃
Minerva
01:29:48 Min
That's great Puck, thank you! He naturally likes to put himself behind me, although we've been working on that and he's much happier walking out nicely now. When we're out and about he plants a few times right at the start, then likes to march. He's definitely more of a woah than go pony, which will be great when I'm backing him in a few years, but not ideal with ride and lead haha

Going in circles for more than a few minutes is not good for baby joints

this is so sad knowing she's gonna end up falling for a guard :")

Ella nodded in agreement, standing herself up and starting off towards the house. She let the warm, weak breeze and the smell of pollen engulf her as they walked, thoughts running through her mind. "So..are you okay?" she asked politely, doing her best to make conversation as if the kiss never happened, though that clearly wasn't going to be the case.

(lol yeah. They'll have to figure it out eventually)
Sage scrambled after her, a grin still spread across his face. "Yeah," he chirped, nodding and then shrugging. "But I could use a good dinner," he admitted with a sheepish chuckle, slipping into the house and bouncing ahead of her into the kitchen, rummaging through the fridge as if something good would magically appear. "I think we need to send the guards shopping," he mused after a moment.

Ella raised her eyebrows at the food selection, nodding in agreement. "Definitely. I'll go and talk to them about it, seems better now than them putting it off for days on end" she offered, picking up an apple as she spoke. She twisted the stalk off the top of it, took one bite and chucked it in the bin, somewhat a. force of habit. "i'll be back soon?" she added, her tone showing the question.

Sage hummed lightly in response and nodded, shutting the fridge with sigh. "As long as they get something decent I don't care what they get," he told her with a shrug, moving to flop down on the couch and nodding in response to her last comment. "Yeah," he agreed, still thinking about why she'd kissed him. Half of him didn't care...he just liked having her here even if she was just playing. The other half was screaming though, and while he had thought it was overall a good thing, eberything in him was warming him that hope only ever got him hurt. WHy should that change now? But he trusted her.

Ella nodded, gave Sage a quick hug and made her way out the door towards where the guards pitched their tent, slightly nervous. She had plans to just walk in there, ask, leave, but she couldn't help but shake off the feeling of slight fear. Like they would hurt her. Obviously they wouldn't, she was the queen, they worked for her, but it was still unnerving. She made her way in, catching the eye of a tall brunette guard, and started to speak. It took around ten or so minutes before she had finally asked, seeing as she had sat and conversed with him for a little amount of time, and as she entered the house again she gave an apologetic look. "Sorry. They're going now" she said with a smile.

Sage had sort of just started at the ceiling while she talked, more than happy to just relax more and wait for her to come back. He lifted his head to peer over the couch when he heard the door open, and when she came back in and spoke he just shrugged and made room for her on the couch. "It wasn't that long," he mused. "I'm hungry, not starving to death," he chuckled lightly. He really didn't mind her taking her time. The guards were probably bored out there too, anyway.

"I guess so. Still, I missed you" Ella said playfully, settling down on the couch, staring over her shoulder to look at Sage. "What do you wanna do while we wait?" she asked politely, fiddling with her dress. She was in a..good mood, having not expected one of the guards, miguel, to be so hospitable when sat out in a tent for months on end. Plus, it was a nice talk.

Sage rolled his eyes at her comment but gave her a grin anyway. "You're with me literally every second of the day. I think you can candle a few minutes away from me," he teased her right back. Then he shrugged slightly in response to her other comments. "Dunno," he hummed, looking over at the boxes and shelves and everyhting in the corner. "Do they have any games? It might be fun." he was fine with just staying sprawled on the couch, but he could play a game or soemthing too.

Ella shrugged, tracing patterns on the couch in thought. "Alright, next time i'm gone i'll never tell you i miss you again" she joked, flashing a playful smile. "No, i don't have any games. But we could always think one up. Or just..play I-spy. Anything" she said, her words a little rushed. She was terrible when thinking up ideas, she hated the thought of i-spy completely but at least they'd have something to do.

Sage chuckled lightly on response to her comment and then nodded. "Good, gives me some peace," he joked right back. Then he wrinkled his nose at her suggestion. "I'm awful at I spy," he admitted with a slight laugh.
