Plants don’t add bacteria but they do consume some of the toxins

@Em, that's a good idea. Do the plants add bacteria too?
ZequineZ

Beneficial bacteria can be hit or miss I’ve heard but I personally have had good results with it. If you can steal some established filter media from someone that boosts it too

If you add beneficial bacteria which you can get at pet stores it can make it faster :)

With cycling though you have to take into account a brand new fresh tank can run forever but unless something is put into the system, it will never be cycled because the beneficial bacteria doesn't have anything to feed on

Yeah I did have issues with nitrite for months myself thinking back
Hummingbird Meadows

@Zz, just a month is nothing. I can do that. My research says 10-12 weeks which is like 3 months!

Well if you are wanting just one, a betta is the way to go. They are super friendly and personable and very easy to care for

I second the research. Specifically research the nitrogen cycle. Running it for A week isn’t enough usually. Mine took a month

I think I am just scared of having multiple fish vs just one.

I had them breed back when I had a large angelfish tank lol of course the angels ate the eggs

I would just say overall ALWAYS do your research! Every fish needs something different such as tank size, food. etc. Also some fish don't get along with others. :) Plus what works for one person might not work for another.

Corys are cute but they theyre bottom dwelling, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have something else to hang in the middle

No they are small. You can even get pygmy ones which are really tiny
Hummingbird Meadows
09:13:28 Bird
@Angels, don't they need bigger tanks though?
Insignia Elites
09:13:25 Em
@bird yes! they scavenge the substrate for food! But watching them breed is really inserting! Mine do every so often but the eggs always get eaten. They are considered a bottom dweller :)

@Stardust, sounds like she has just had a long day.

Yesss I love corys. I always add them to my tank because they eat leftover food that sinks to the bottom and help reduce ammonia spikes
Star Fields

Ok so this is a genuine question for any parents on HEE - My mom said dinner's ready and I said what are we having. She said chicken, shrimp, and salad. I said what kind of salad and she started freaking out and telling me I'm rude and not supportive. Now here's the question - Is there a reason for this?
Hummingbird Meadows
09:12:28 Bird
Corydoras sound fun too, but evidently they only stay at the bottom of the tank?

This has no title yet. So, yeah. Just some stress writing :D

Comment below if you would like more,

<div align="center">Nothing was around me, or at least as far as I could see. Only the smell of death was upon my mind. The ocean filled my lungs. The trembling fear of dying struck. As the inflaming pain rose to my chest, I struggled to stay above the water. The continuous waves crashed over me. I didn't want to die, but when I received that small second to think I questioned my existence.
<div align="center">
<div align="center">I unsealed my eyes to see I was alive, and breathing. Barely. The rough, warm soil mended into my hair. I conceive that I am alive. Hopefully I am. I start to get up. I look about and see that there is nothing besides a tickling feel ascending up my legs. Well. This is great. What to do now. It's not an everyday thing being trapped on an island.
<div align="center">
<div align="center">Trekking along the irregular shoreline, Im drenched in water with sand in places it shouldn't be. I don't know how long I was out after that eerie ocean attacked me. I'd rather not remember the moment.

<div align="center"> The beautiful sunset is like the twilight of a life fulfilled. Then again I didn't fulfill anything. I found a tree. It was quite abnormal looking. I fell in a bottomless sleep. I didn't even dream. An immediate noise awakened me. It roared throughout the whole sky. Quick and suddenly, a golden beam tore the sky in two. It was just a quick disturbance. Gladly. It hardly rained. It was like one of them nights when you have lightning, but no rain.
<div align="center">
<div align="center">

The morning rose gradually. As I start to ascend up, I noticed a seethe noise coming from somewhere. Then all of a sudden it's gone. Im probably losing my mind, but like that is new. Im craving something to eat right now. It has been hours since I have ate something! I'm walking down the beach when a dark figure is at at least a few hundred yards away from me. I start to panic, but I am hungry so I keep progressing ahead. As I get closer the object begins to get more clearer to me. It is some species of animal. Then I see another figure effortlessly dashing to the woods. It looked like another human.
