Hi everyone!

I have been playing for a little while but never really put much thought into Barns vs Pastures

That being said, I would love your opinions on which one is worth stocking up on and why. What their individual benefits are etc

I am looking to get some more but can't make my mind up and I have always wondered the difference anyway and I would assume some other members may have the same question :)

Thank you for your answers <3

Depedning on what you're looking for in your program, as they are both insanely beneficial for different causes.

From the game help section:
You can purchase Pastures in the Grow section with Eden Bucks or USD. The benefit of putting your horses in Pastures is that they will require less hay to be fed. When keeping horses in pastures, your pasture will have a Pasture Quality trait. The highest quality is Lush Pasture, the lowest is Barren Pasture. Pastures will degrade over time from highest to lowest, and the speed at which it degrades is based upon how many horses you have in the Pasture. High quality pastures provide more feed to horses and so less hay is needed. Lush pastures require zero hay supplementation, while barren pastures require full hay supplementation.

If you move your horses out of a pasture, the pasture will grow back it's grass, all the way to Lush Quality. However, in the Winter grass does not grow. So it will take longer to grow back during the winter months.

If you put Mares and Stallions of breeding age in a pasture together, they will try to mate. Please read about Pasture Breeding in the Breeding section of this guide for more information.
Any new catured horses will have to go into barns, barn horses are feed with hay balls and/or grain.
Pasture horses will get feed with round balls and if there are only few horses in the pasture, the horses will be able to eat the grass and keep the feeding costs lower.
On the other hand you can grow grass on your empty pastures in spring and earn your own hay. But this inplements, that your horses are not in the pasture during this time.
Pastures can be turned into memorial gardens, too, if you want to keep the memory for certain special horses.

pastures would be good if you have lots of geldings showing which would reduce the cost of feeding your horses. having a pasture also means you can't have mares and stallions in the same pasture or they will breed. So I'd say if you got room to have mares or mares/gelds in one pasture and stallions in a different pasture that would work. I prefer barns just so my horses don't accidentally breed by forgetting there are 2yr old colts in a pasture with mares. Just my personal experience.

I buy pastures because not only can you grow food for your horses, you can sell extra hay for income, have more horses, but you can also put retired horses in them if you turn them into memorial gardens they are permanent and you loose the pasture but if you have very favorite horses you can look back on them, if you so wish, if there in the gardens and they will not disappear from the game if there foals all pass away. And having pastures helps with feeding because in my experience buying hay even with store tokens is more expensive then growing your own I recently bought 1 pasture and I have not had to buy food since.
