Title says most of it. I'm trying to mofe to GIMP, but can't make head or tail of what to do. How on earth do you add an image layer?

You should have an option to do that in "windows". If you open the tab for layers.

Go to file in the upper left-hand corner and click on the tab that says "open as layers" and you should be good to go (:
I use GIMP pretty frequently so if you have any more questions, you know where to find me!
