So I'm currently low tier 3 in art, I feel like I've improved a lot though since that got decided, has it changed at all? bTsGo.png

I don't see any noticeable change. In such a dark setting, the light sources are way off

Hi! So it looks like you've got patterns down pretty darn well, your body prep looks lovely, and the eyes look great! I do see a couple of things that I think could be improved ^^
  • Try breaking hair up into smaller chunks, instead of one big one, to give it a more natural flow. When you draw the strands, try to keep in mind the direction; hair tends to move together rather than each individual hair doing its own thing. It helps if you draw using your whole arm and move from the shoulder and elbow, rather than just the wrist. It helps keep your lines flowy and smooth, and reduces wrist strain c:
  • Keep in mind the lighting scenario when doing patterns; since the background is fairly dark, the patterns could be a smidge darker. Play around with clipping masks and different layer modes! I like to put a dark color over the whole horse and erase where the light hits to make shadows.
  • Hooves! They're necessary to ground the horse, and luckily super easy to repaint! Just fill them in with a dark/medium grey color, add darker grey to the outsides and lighter strip down the middle, then take a streaky-ish smudge brush and go back and forth to give texture and blend out the shading :D I'll be posting a better tutorial here soon ^^
  • Another smaller thing I see is the sharpness around the face- you can use a selection mask(lasso tool, depending on your art app) to keep the face and body separated while you smudge so the lines stay clearer
Once you get these down, and if you're comfortable with color changes and more complex coats, I'd say you can move up to T2 😊

Yeah I've always struggled with the hair, lighting is hard too with ibis, thanks for the tips <33
