Min, we were talking about whether the price difference between the #1 and #2 boy is justified simply because the dam of the #1 is higher on the LB herself.

How do you get onto leaderboards?

Lyra has produced mediocre foals as well. So it's pretty much rf and the stallion's strength as well. Ceres has produced a handful of strong offspring

I mean Ceres was the #1 ABLB so I don't think its fair to say he isn't good. But it does seem to be an "if it works it works" situation with his foals and unfortunately for me it doesnt work with Nym and none of the other girls are good enough to have that much money spent on them

For Solaris in particular the dam really took over. That same cross also produced a mid WBLB stud who is legit mediocre.

I think, someone tell me if this is incorrect, that it is the all breeds leaderboard, though dont know how you make it onto there

And I think his strength is because his dam is a beast, not because Ceres is good

I've watched his foals like a hawk seeing what crosses seem to work and what don't. He is definitely not one I plan to use, doesn't seem to pull much weight himself

Yeah I definitely don't have Ceres in any of my plans anymore- he's given me WWWs with Nymeria but theyve all been mediocre at best. Fingers crosses Solaris works with her better 😁

When artists say they repaint the horse when doing an art piece, do they literally colour the whole horse one colour then add the lines / muscle back on, eye etc?

Mostly yes, though they usually start with a few base lights and darks over 1 color, but it varies person to person :)

Appreciate it's not exactly the same, but when I'm making digital art I fill my sketch in one solid light grey colour and then add lines/rough shading for the horse's muscles with a fairly dark/light grey. I do make them fairly thick (but not fuzzy) otherwise the horse looks stripey. Equally if they are too thick it looks a bit homogeneous after the next step. Then blend it together and add more mid-tones of grey. That just gives me a basic map for the muscles etc. Then add detail over the top.
