I've been breeding X horses to try and get high rated horses without roan or sabino genes. I'm not sure what the situation is now because I took a break for a few months, but a year ago those genes (which I personally don't like) seemed to be flooding the stock.
.
This is my first RO getting multiple EEW combo foals and I'm super excited but also want to make sure I'm doing things properly. Can someone explain what makes a horse a good candidate to get on LBs? What are the best practices for promoting a new stallion?
.
I just got an EEW colt who also has a lot of colors. Is that something people would be interested in breeding to? Is it worth keeping him as a stallion for a few of my mares or should I geld anything with less that two Ws?

I'm sure others can give you a little more detailed advice, but here is what I know from my personal experience.

At this point in the game, you pretty much need a WWW to have a chance at the all-dicipline LBs. Svenning helps (not sure how much, someone else can probably weigh in with more detail) and training should give you a good indication of a promising stallion (all up wk 4s, multiple up wk 7s), and ultimately it's just a little luck to actually get on the LBs.

Unfortunately EEW combos are pretty much phased out as far as public interest goes. You likely will not get anyone to breed them, unless they are true color bombs and your breed happens to have a market for that.

Best practices for promoting a new stallion? Putting up a straw thread in forums is a good idea, once you have a promising WWW stallion people would be interested in. Starting small (like free straw incentives or at least cheap straws) will help get you people that are willing to help you "test" him as a freshman. Setting the breeding requirements and having people FR anything under EEE is a good idea. I even offer buy-backs for some of my LB horses.

Anyway, hope this helps!

I agree with the post above.
.
I will say though for mares, don't discredit EWE combos. Majority of the WWWs I have bred have been from EWE mares. Including my XLB guy that was ABLB for a while.
Most people will agree that Svens are "needed" for LB studs. I disagree. They can definitely help and increase your chances but you can do just as well without. Especially breeding X. They are not as strong as other breeds so it is a lot easier to get on the LB with a good WWW.
.
If you need any more help or have any specific questions my PMs are always open and I am happy to help! I would also be glad to send you some of my boys straws if you would like them. He is retiring after this month but he is still an amazing stud. He is sabino but only het so you can breed foals without it.
