How does flaxen work?

In one horse game I play, they have flaxen as a "hidden" gene (it's also recessive; it will only show if the horse has 2 copies, which would mean one or both parents are either flaxen themselves, and/or carry the flaxen gene).

However, in this game, I have no idea. I cannot tell if flaxen is random or not. Any help?

Hi! In HEE, flaxen is random for chestnut. No specific genes are required to my knowledge :)
