I'm a little confused... I have a bunch of SD mares up for public brood and they all have their minimum breeding rating set to SubWSub (any combination). However, I have this girl who was just bred to an EEE without any interference? The minimum rating has been set for a few weeks now, it wasn't something I changed today or anything. I'm not terribly concerned that she was bred to an AD stud but I thought this was weird haha. The mare: https://horseeden.com/horse.php?id=43637669. The EEE stud can be found in her breeding history. Thank you!!

Not a bug. Any combination setting allows studs that are SubWSub or higher to be used (EEE is higher than SubWSub hence why he was able to breed to her). If you put SD mares up set them for exact match so only Cross Country W studs can be used otherwise a WSubSub or SubSubW could also be used.

I do find it a bit strange the E wasn't forced to be a W, though. That part didn't "or higher"

Yeah exactly. I assumed it was based on exact rating. I don't have the patience to go through and set all of my mares individually so it's easier to use the set all feature by barn and just do any combo.

It's because an EEE is a higher rating than SubWSub automatically regardless of the W. It's the same concept of breeding to a stud at LC. If his restrictions are PPP+ but you have an SWW mare you can't use her because of the S even though she has 2 Ws. Edited at May 24, 2026 12:35 PM by All Breeds

This really isn't making sense to me unfortunately. . When I hear SubWSub as a minimum, that to me says one must be WC, while the other two can be gosh dang anything under the sun without a care in the world. . E doesn't outrank WC so I guess I'm confused as to... Why... EEE is better? There's nothing in it that's WC, and the minimum states one WC, so how? Edited at May 24, 2026 06:09 PM by Versailles

It's because it's set to any combo which allows it. EEE is a higher rating than SubWSub inherently. If the settings were for Exact Match than only horses that have a XC W can breed to the mare. For example if a mare is restricted to SubSubW any combo that means an AAA could even be bred as AAA is technically higher that SubSubW but if it was exact match than a horse would have to be at least World Class in J in order to breed to the mare so you could use SSW but the stud has to be WC in SJ in order to be usable on exact match restrictions.

I'll use Elysium as an example Versa. He's set to WEE Any Combo so I could breed WEE, EWE or EEW to him or higher. However I would not be able to use a WWP on him even though the mare has 2 WC ratings and one is in Dressage the lower rating of P drags her down to be lower than the requirements. Now if he was set to exact match I would only be able to use WEE, WWE or WWW on him as the mare would be required to be W in Dressage and E or higher in XC and SJ. Yes, this part makes sense. Elysium is my boy and I definitely wanted WEE or higher, I don't really mind the combo since he has no real weaknesses. . My confusion comes in at "inherently better" with the whole AAA over SubSubW thing... I can understand two As passing through, since any combo means they can go anywhere. But that third A is nowhere near WC. So why does it make it? . Same with EEE. Two Es making it through makes sense to me, but why the third E? E is lower than WC, so it isn't making the "any combo" with a WC being included

It's because the SubSub ratings make it lower than the EEE even though they have a WC. The any combo allows for horses that are considered higher rating overall not just in a single discipline like exact match would.
