The black Friesian huddled against his stable wall, rain pouring through the cracks in the wood. He lifted his head, flaring up his nostrils to smell the wind. The scent of the rain washed out the usual scent of the stable, and the Friesian snorted as his head lowered. A bolt of lightning struck somewhere out in the distance, sending a flash of light through the gray sky.
The stallion raised his muscled face, snorting wildly. He could smell the mare in the opposite stall, and his senses were going on overdrive despite the storm. He lifted onto his back legs, looking down at the buckskin mare. The mare lifted her head and pinned her ears, giving an aggressive stare. The Friesian rolled his eyes and laid his hooves neatly in front of him once more.
