Name: Elowen "Ellie" Harper

Age: 20

Appearance:
Elowen has a striking appearance with long, dark chestnut hair that cascades in soft waves down her back. Her eyes are a deep green, like the forest after rainfall, sharp and observant yet often tinged with doubt. She carries herself with an air of quiet strength, though her features hold an underlying vulnerability from the emotional turmoil of being in a realm so alien to her. She dresses simply, usually in earth-toned garments, practical for traveling but with delicate details that hint at her growing enchantment with the fae world. Her skin is fair, but when exposed to the fae realm's magic, it seems to shimmer faintly under moonlight.

Key Attributes:

  • Adaptable: Elowen is able to adjust to the strange and unpredictable nature of the fae realm, even though it is in stark contrast to her quiet, grounded life back home.
  • Empathetic: She has a deep understanding of others' emotions, though in the fae realm, she often finds that her human empathy leads to misunderstandings or becomes a weakness to exploit.
  • Courageous: Though hesitant, Elowen is not afraid to stand up for herself, especially as she starts realizing how dangerous the fae world can be. She doesn’t shrink away from difficult decisions.
  • Romantic: A hopeless romantic at heart, she is caught between a desire to pursue true love and the realization that the laws of the fae may not allow for it.

Elowen Harper stood at the edge of the forest, her fingers tracing the worn edges of the ancient stone arch that had appeared out of nowhere. The evening sky above was streaked with soft hues of violet and gold, the sun sinking low behind the thick trees. The forest had always felt alive to her, with its quiet whispers and rustling leaves, but tonight, something was different.
There was an energy in the air—subtle, but undeniable. The wind carried a scent she couldn't place, sweet and sharp, like wildflowers and rain, and the hairs on her neck prickled as if the very air was charged with magic.
"I should go back," she whispered to herself, glancing over her shoulder at the path that led home. But there was something irresistibly pulling her forward, a deep, unspoken promise in the space beyond the arch. Her heart beat faster as she stepped closer, the archway now filling her vision, its stone surface etched with unfamiliar symbols that seemed to shift in the dim light.
Before she could question her decision, her foot crossed the threshold.
The world around her seemed to bend and twist in an instant. The ground shifted, the trees warping and melting into shapes that defied reason. Colors bled into one another like spilled ink, swirling into vibrant pools of iridescence. The air was thick with an overwhelming sense of magic, and the faintest hum, like a song that was both alien and deeply familiar, filled her ears.
"Wait," she murmured, her breath catching in her throat. The sounds of the forest—so comforting, so grounded—were gone, replaced by an unsettling stillness. A crackling, distant laughter echoed in the air, and the sharp scent of something...otherworldly tickled her senses.
A shifting shape darted through the trees ahead, and Elowen instinctively took a step back, only to feel the ground beneath her feet suddenly drop. Her heart lurched as she stumbled, and the dizzying sensation of falling consumed her for a moment. When her feet finally landed, it was with a soft thud, and the air felt even more suffocating, like the entire sky had closed in around her.
She looked around, her breath catching in her throat as she tried to make sense of the place she’d found herself in. The world around her was beautiful—but unnatural. The trees had a silvery glow to them, their bark smooth and reflective, like mirrors to another world. The ground was carpeted with glowing moss, the colors shifting beneath her steps. But it was the sky above that unnerved her most—swirling clouds that seemed to pulse with strange, shifting patterns, stars twinkling in ways that felt too sharp, too perfect.
"Where am I?" she whispered, her voice trembling.

To him, this was just another day in Alunara, a routine so ingrained it barely registered as special anymore. Sylas had risen early, long before the servants stirred, knowing the house would be quiet, and he could steal a few moments for himself before the world resumed its usual pace. He enjoyed this solitude—the silence of dawn, the crisp morning air, the slow unfolding of the day around him. The servants would soon bustle about their tasks, the household would wake, and the weight of his responsibilities would settle back on his shoulders. But not yet. Not now.

A glance and a brief nod passed between him and one of his guards as he stepped out of the house. It was a subtle gesture, but one that conveyed everything they both understood. The guard would remain at a distance, watchful but unobtrusive, while Sylas retreated into the comfort of his private space. He didn’t need protection here, not really, but it was customary. And he was not the sort to challenge tradition when it was easier to let things play out as they always had.

Sylas wandered for a while, his boots crunching softly on the path as he veered away from the meticulously manicured gardens surrounding his home. He walked with purpose, but not haste. His mind wandered as much as his feet, drifting in rhythm with the natural world that surrounded him. The air was fresh with the scent of earth and dew, and the trees whispered with the light breeze, their branches swaying and creaking in a way that always made him feel like the forest was alive, aware of him—welcoming him even. He knew this path well, each turn and bend, each patch of sunlight and shadow that painted the way. He didn’t need to hurry. There was no one to answer to here, no duty to fulfill, just the steady rhythm of his own thoughts and the quiet thrum of the world around him.

Eventually, the trees began to thin, and the sounds of the house behind him faded away. He emerged into his favorite clearing—a secluded spot known only to a few. In the center, a small lake lay still and untouched, its surface gleaming like polished glass. The water’s deep blue hue shimmered with hints of pearlescent light as the first rays of the sun filtered through the trees, dappling the water with intricate patterns. It was serene, perfect, the kind of place where he could breathe deeply without the weight of his title, his responsibilities, or his burdens pressing on him.

Sylas stood for a moment at the water’s edge, his gaze flicking over the lake as if measuring something hidden beneath the surface. Then, without further hesitation, he began to undress, his movements slow and deliberate, as if savoring the brief escape from his usual formalities. The cool morning air nipped at his skin, but it was the water he sought. The quiet, the weightlessness. The solitude.

Without another thought, he dove into the lake, the water embracing him like a second skin. It was cool but not cold, and the sensation of it surrounding him—soothing and deep—was exactly what he needed. He swam through the stillness, gliding beneath the surface, watching the light from above ripple through the water in gentle waves. The sunlight played with the leaves overhead, sending shifting patterns across the lake, turning the ripples into a dance of light and shadow. He swam for a while, pushing himself through the water as if to outpace his own thoughts, but eventually, he grew tired.

With a quiet sigh, he rolled over onto his back, floating effortlessly. He closed his eyes, feeling the warmth of the sun on his face and the coolness of the water cradling him. The world seemed to disappear as he drifted, weightless, his mind momentarily free from the tangled web of duties and obligations. For a fleeting moment, it was just him and the lake, the soft whispers of the forest, and the steady rise of the sun.

He lingered there, allowing himself to float, letting time pass without concern for it. It was in these rare moments of stillness that Sylas found a kind of peace—an escape from the ever-present weight of leadership, from the expectations of his family and the people of Alunara. In the water, he could simply be—no titles, no plans, just the quiet rhythm of his own existence. And for once, it felt enough.

Elowen’s heart pounded as the strange, shimmering world around her pressed in, its unnatural beauty both mesmerizing and unsettling. The air felt charged, heavy with magic that hummed just beneath the surface, a constant reminder that this was no ordinary place. As she stood there, her breath catching in her throat, she realized that this world was not one she could easily comprehend, but it was one she had been drawn to, whether by choice or fate.
Every detail of the landscape felt too perfect—too sharp. The silver trees, with their mirrored bark, reflected not just the light but something deeper, something that seemed to echo her own thoughts. The glowing moss beneath her feet shifted with each step she took, casting a strange, iridescent glow that pulsed like a heartbeat. The sky above, swirling with clouds that moved of their own accord, felt as though it could swallow her whole, each star too bright, too perfectly placed.
And yet, there was a pull. A magnetic force in the air, beckoning her forward, urging her to uncover the secrets hidden within this strange realm. Despite the fear that gnawed at her, Elowen could feel an unspoken promise in the silence around her. She wasn’t just a visitor here—she had been called, guided to this place for a reason.
The laughter she had heard earlier, distant and mocking, seemed to linger in the air, now more present, more deliberate. It was a sound that chilled her to the core, an echo of something ancient and far beyond her understanding. And then she saw it—a fleeting shape in the distance, moving quickly among the trees. Elowen instinctively took a step back, but the ground beneath her feet felt… wrong. It wavered, as if the very nature of the world around her was in flux.
It was then that she realized: she wasn’t alone.
Something was watching her. Or perhaps it had always been watching her. Her senses were heightened in this place, every movement, every sound amplified, as though the forest itself was alive and aware of her presence.
But despite the growing sense of unease, there was also something deeper, something familiar about this strange world. It wasn’t just a place of mystery—it was a place where *she* was meant to be, even if she didn’t yet understand why. The feeling settled in her chest like a quiet knowing, both reassuring and disconcerting at once.
Elowen glanced over her shoulder, half-expecting to see the familiar path back to her home, but it was gone, swallowed up by the surreal landscape behind her. There was no going back. Not now.
With one final, steadying breath, Elowen pressed forward, knowing that whatever waited for her in this strange world, she had no choice but to face it.

Sylas had lost track of time when a sound disrupted the serene bubble of his thoughts. A subtle rustling, not from the trees, but from the edge of the clearing. His eyes snapped open, and for the briefest moment, he allowed himself the luxury of disbelief. No one ever came here. Not in the early hours, not where the path was hidden, and certainly not while the mist still clung to the earth.

The rustling grew more deliberate, followed by the faintest crunch of footsteps. Sylas tensed, a sudden alertness surging through him, the peace of the water slipping away. His mind, sharp as it always was, began to analyze: Was it a trespasser? A wild animal? A servant sent to retrieve him?

He could not imagine who would risk intruding on this space, but the curiosity of it piqued his interest nonetheless. Slowly, almost imperceptibly, he swam closer to the shore, his movements smooth, his body barely disturbing the surface. He remained still, waiting, listening.

Then, through the foliage, a figure appeared—young, lithe, and unmistakably out of place. A woman, dressed in a simple but well-worn tunic, her long dark chestnut hair pulled back loosely. Her presence was jarring against the backdrop of the untamed wilderness. She seemed unaware of him at first, her attention fixed on something in the distance—perhaps the clearing itself, or the lake's edge.

Sylas watched her for a long moment, his instincts wrestling with a mix of wariness and intrigue. The clearing was sacred to him, a space untouched by the affairs of the house or the demands of his role. This was where he sought solace, not company.

Elowen stepped cautiously into the clearing, her heart pounding in her chest, the faint rustle of leaves beneath her feet a stark contrast to the eerie stillness of the place. She had never ventured this far, never meant to trespass on what was clearly someone’s sanctuary. But something had drawn her here, an instinct, a pull she couldn't explain. The air was thick with something—heavy, almost suffocating, like the earth itself was holding its breath.
Her eyes, wide and alert, scanned the area, drawn to the quiet expanse of the lake shimmering in the morning light, the mist still clinging to its surface. But something wasn’t right. A presence—indistinct yet palpable—lingered at the edge of her senses. She paused, instinctively reaching for the worn hilt of the dagger tucked at her waist, though she quickly dismissed the thought. She wasn't here to fight. She had no reason to be afraid.
Then, the hair on the back of her neck prickled, and she realized she wasn’t alone. There was movement in the water, a shadow just beneath the surface. Her breath caught. It was almost imperceptible, but there. A figure, watching her.
She couldn’t tell who it was—perhaps a hermit or someone who had made this their home, but the idea of disturbing the peace of this sacred place gnawed at her. It was as if she were intruding on something far older than herself, something beyond the reach of her understanding. Her gaze darted toward the shore, but the figure, hidden by the mist, remained a mystery.
She took another step forward, determined to be respectful, but her mind was full of questions. What was this place? Who was watching her?
The figure hadn’t moved, yet Elowen felt their eyes on her—sharp, calculating.

Sylas remained motionless, his gaze locked on her, trying to decipher the strange pull she seemed to exude. She wasn't the type to stumble into this place by accident. There was a quiet intensity about her, something that suggested she might be more than a mere wanderer. Her movements were cautious but deliberate, a reflection of someone accustomed to navigating the unknown. The curiosity gnawed at him, but it was tinged with caution.

He wondered if she was from another fae realm that graced his borders. But something told him by her mere appearance and posture that she didn't belong to any of those.

Just then the wind picked up, blowing a gentle breeze in his direction. The scent carried in on the wind. Human. His eyes widened, why had a human been sent to these lands? Why now? He knew of the alluring door that would often appear to those who needed it in the human world but this creature that stood before him, amongst the trees, she daren't creep closer.

The breeze crafting ripples across the surface of the small lake.

He studied her, her hand brushing what seemed to be a primitive weapon at her side. He didn't dare move because he didn't want to startle her but also for the fact that he was completely and utterly naked.

Humans always brought tension with them everywhere they went, he could scent it in the air. But he remained calm, his blue eyes shining brightly amongst the reeds of the lakeside, that concealed him just enough. The sun had also shrouded the lake in a mist.

Sylas looked at the ripples his body created in the water, trying to think of something simple to say. He looked back up at her, her gaze examining, as cautiously as he was treating her.

"Human..." He said softly, not to startle her. He knew what she was, so he may as well say it. The delicate roundness of her ears poking through her chestnut hair.

"You are far from home" He said gently, not to further her fear, but also encouraging enough for her to speak, for her to answer and ask questions.

"Do not fear...I don't not live in these waters" He smiled softly, a tone that was filled with truth. His eyes would suggest he lived here for the very colour matched the iridescent pool that he lounged about in.

Elowen watched him closely, her heartbeat steady despite the unsettling mix of curiosity and wariness that clung to the air between them. She had expected many things, but not this. Not him.
She couldn’t deny the pull that seemed to emanate from him, an energy that hummed just beneath her skin, coaxing her closer even as her instincts screamed to keep her distance. He was… not quite human, that much was certain. His gaze was intense, unblinking, and there was something timeless about the way he held himself, something ancient that made the surrounding woods feel alive with his presence.
The breeze carried the scent of the water, cool and fresh, but there was something else. Something deeper. He was not like the fae she had encountered before, nor like the stories she had heard whispered around hearthfires. He was something else entirely.
Her fingers lingered on the hilt of her weapon, though it wasn’t fear that made her reach for it. It was a trained reflex, a habit from years spent surviving in lands much less kind than this one.
His voice broke the silence, soft and deliberate. “Human…”
Elowen’s eyes narrowed slightly, meeting his gaze as she took a small step back, trying to keep the distance between them, though she wasn’t sure why. She knew he could have taken a hundred steps before she could so much as blink in reaction. Yet still, she hesitated.
"You are far from home," he continued, his words gentle, but tinged with something that made her insides twist. She wasn’t sure if it was pity or something else, but she didn’t like it.
She steadied herself, a wisp of defiance rising within her chest. "I go where I must," she answered, her voice steady, though she couldn’t help but feel the weight of his gaze, like he could see far too much beneath her surface. "And I am not lost". Elowen lied through her teeth. She wouldn't let this stranger know and use that information against her.
His next words brought an unexpected softness, an offer of reassurance, though she wasn’t sure what it was he expected of her. His smile was like a shadow in the mist, one she couldn’t quite decipher.
"I do not fear," she replied, meeting his gaze with a fierceness she didn’t quite feel, though she refused to show any weakness. "But I will ask again. Who are you?"
Her hand remained near her weapon, but she didn’t draw it. Not yet. She needed answers first.
