"Oh and Emily," I paused, turning to face her. "About what we were talking about last night....I think we should take a break. Spend some time apart, then maybe try again. Things are just kinda....awkward and it doesn't feel like how it used to, I think it'd just be best if we split, took some time on ourselves and everything else, then try again if we're still down." I assured, throat tight as I spoke before I shoved the thought aside. |

She stopped, slowly turned around, and just nodded. Tears streamed down her face as she silently went upstairs and packed. She looked at yet another text from Cadence, shoving her phone into her duffel bag. She put all of her clothes and whatever she remembered into the bag before going to the back corner of the garage where her older car was. She started it up and drove away without another word to Caden. She could barely see around the tears streaming down her face and she trembling in her hands. I should have known. He never loved me or wanted me. He just wanted my body. Same as every other guy. I shouldn't have been so stupid!" She pulled over, sobbing before calling the nearest hotel and booking a room. She drove there once she could finally see again, crashing in the small room without so much as carrying anything in |

I watched as she packed, staying somewhat frozen as she walked out without another word, no 'goodbye', no 'see you around', nothing. As she pulled out of the driveway I pulled open the front door, stepping onto the porch as I watched her drive away, something heavy settling on my shoulders that felt familiar, yet not at the same time. I sighed, shutting the door behind me as I stepped inside, wanting to chase her car down the driveway and tell her I didn't mean it, didn't really want her to leave. Yet I did. And she listened. ^*^*^*^*^ ~ Two months later ~ ^*^*^*^*^ Thank God that's over with. I sighed, running a hand down my face in the elevator, waiting on the doors to ding open and release me into the lobby. Eventually they did, my black dress shoe ridden feet hitting the marble flooring of the 78th Avenue Tower's lobby flooring, my eyes scanning to try to find a place to sit. Eventually I found one, holding my elbows on my knees as I held my head in my hands, finally able to breathe. I glanced up, noticing a woman who for some odd reason. . . held my attention a bit too much. No, Caden. Focus on yourself, stay single, stay open. I sighed, grabbing my things once more as I started for the exit, pushing the glass doors open as I slipped my sunglasses on. I started down the sidewalk, avoiding all eye contact with anybody and everybody, utterly done with the world as the one thing I craved was my house. |

Emily had picked up a job at a high-end car garage across town. She never went out, she never dated, never even had one-night-stands. She had a routine and kept to herself, placing on a fake smile everyday at work, getting paid minimum wage and eating once a day. She drove the same car as always but it had been wrapped to be silver instead of black now and had illegally dark tint |

I carried on the way down the street, eventually walking into the garage where my Corvette was being tuned. The old blue c8 Stingray i'd sold, wanting none of the memories to haunt me before buying a new black c8 Z06. "Hey Z! Got everything tuned up, she should run smooth as a whistle now." The shopkeeper chirped, a grin spreading on my face. I'd slowly caught on they called all their customers by their most brought in cars, which in my case, was the Z06. "Really? Thank you, couldn't be more glad." I mused, grabbing my wallet. "How much do I owe you, cap?" I asked, getting told the total before paying, getting handed my keys as I caught a glimpse of a hair shade I knew all too well. I stared for a moment, glad my voice was quiet and I had sunglasses on so the shopkeeper couldn't tell I was staring. "Have a good day, don't mind coming back for any issues, Z." The man mused, my brain delaying before snapping back to reality. "Yeah....you too." With that I started the walk over to the Z06, brow creased as I loosened my tie, barely able to breathe. |

Emily had instantly recognized the car when it came in and didn't complain when it was assigned to her--she knew it inside and out. She did the tune up and everything needed but didn't mention anything to the other employees. She listened to the conversation before going back to her work |

Starting the car and listening as it roared to life, I started the drive down to my place, noting tonight would be one of those nights. The ones where I grabbed a fresh pack off the table, a flask, and got on the quickest bike I had (and also, perhaps one of the ones which had the most wrecks per year, though I never mentioned it) before driving somewhere remote, and losing track of time and place until I snapped back to reality back in my room, fresh stains dotting my neck, and my shirt tossed and crumpled somewhere on the ground---oh yeah, and also the worst hangover to exist. I sighed, silencing the radio as I drove on, the sunshine quickly turning to rain, the sound of droplets hitting the car and the sound of my breaths the only music to my ears. |

Emily kept up her routine for weeks, then months, until nearly a year later. She got into a 15 car pileup on the interstate that made the news and she was in a coma and hospitalized. Her picture alongside other drivers' pictures were on screen as she was listed as one of the survivors. It told the hospital everyone was sent to and the current general status of everyone. (oh. my. god. wow, um, wow 0-0 poor emily 😭) I walked into the hospital, mostly wearing black, besides the dark grey button up I wore under my suit jacket---due to my job changing, leading to an even more depressing dress code. Yay. Slipping into the elevator and past the desk, I clicked for the 4th floor, stepping out onto the quiet lobby before making my way to room 316, pushing the door open and listening to the beep of moniters as I walked to the side table, grabbing a notpad and a pen, jotting down a note. Long time no see, Emily. I don't bite, I think you know that by now. Contact me, hell, I don't care how you do it. Send a message in a damn bottle and toss it into the Mariana Trench and i'd dive down to get it back. Second chances are most of the time possible. Now is it possible this time? With that I slipped out, stealing one last look at her before carrying on back to the parking lot, slipping into my Z06 before driving away. Messed up your pretty face in that wreck, hon. What's next? History repeats itself and you fall in love with the man who wrecked into you? Wake up. I'll be here, i'll always be here. I'm. Always. Waiting. |

When Emily woke up two weeks later, she thanked God she had insurance that was good and headed home scarred up, broken inside and out, and having a certain man on her mind from the day she woke. She texted Caden. -Long time is right. How are you?- |
