Ella smiled and nodded, leaving the conversation at that. She stood up and headed to get her clothes and change, not caring too much about Sage seeing- she was just about fine with that. Once she was able to slip on the dress she had chosen, and brushed her hair out she peered out the window at the long path that stretched towards the forest, yawning a little. "Whenever you're ready" she smiled, fiddling with her hair.

Sage sort of rummaged around for a bit before sort of just settling on an apple for breakfast. He grabbed one for Ella too, and moved to toss her the apple once she'd changed. He grunted in agreement and nodded, peering out at the path rather excitedly. "Let me out on a different shirt and we can had out," he hummed wandering over to grab a shirt that he could get dirty or wet, in case they decided to swim or whatever and changed. He didn't mind what she saw, though he was suddenly reminded of the many scars that he had....well, everywhere. She was bound to be curious, though there wasn't too much question as to how he'd gotten them. But that was alright...if she asked, he'd talk. He didn't mind. He finished soon enough though and chirped "ready," before wandering in the direction of the lake happily.

Ella has fully noticed the scars all over Sages body, though she figured if curiosity got the better of her, she would ask later, when they made it to the lake or whatever. Not pile it on as soon as they left the house. The weather was surprisingly warm and she was more than happy to let the walk to the lake go on for longer than needed, simply taking in her surroundings. "I don't think the guards actually saw us leave, so we may have peace and quiet for a while" she smiled, looking back at the house. She could see at least one of the guards' shadows in the tent, but they definitely didn't seem too intent on keeping watch. She turned back to the way they were walking, kicking up grass as she went.

Sage had moved to wander along next to her as they left the house, squinting up at the sun and sky for a moment before looking over at Ella as she spoke up, giving her his normal crooked grin. "Good," he mused. "Maybe we'll take a nap to make up for the sleep they cost us," he joked lightly. It was quite warm out, so it would be very nice to nap in, even he could admit that. He wasn't too tired anymore, but whatever. He could still joke around. He normally would have kicked stones and things around as he walked, though it took all of his energy to just get to the dock and plop down on the edge, reaching down to sort of poke at the water under it absentmindedly.

Ella smiled and nodded in agreement, dusting off little pieces of grass after she had settled herself down, staring down at the water. It took her quite some time to think up the words she wanted, stumbling quite well over her own sentences in her brain before they left her mouth. In the end, she settled on the dumb four word sentence that worried everyone when it was said. "I have a question" was all that came out of her mouth, slowly and quietly, and she did her best to avert her gaze from where she had seen the scars and back towards the lake.

Sage had settled himself down happily, letting the water run along his fingers slowly. Though, at her comment, he moved to turn his head in a way that he could see her and cocked his head slightly in a rather curious manner. "What," he hummed lightly. He couldn't say he wasn't worried as to what she'd say, but he also knew he trusted her....so it couldn't be too bad, right? Besides, he didn't mind telling her things she may have a question about. There were plenty of things about him to have questions about, even.

Ella took a deep breath, and then started her question, her voice a little shaky. As much as she was used to helping others with problems, past or present, fully asking about them was tricky. Especially with something she was this close too. "The scars, i assume you know which ones-" she cut herself off as a bug landed on her leg, swiping it off before she could carry on. "Where exactly did you get those? Was it just from my aunt or was it other things too?" she finally finished, regretting her question as soon as it left her mouth. It was clearly a personal thing and she felt somehow like she shouldn't be prying, like she shouldn't have ever asked in the first place. "Don't feel forced to say, by the way" she added, lifting her tone a little so her sentence didn't come across bad.

Sage had sort of figured the question was coming sooner or later, so he nodded when she sort of tried to word it right before shrugging. "Some was your aunt. Some was other people in the castle. Some was from when I lived on the streets." He chuckled dryly and shrugged. "As much as she liked to seem like she was putting her mark on me, it was more my dad than anyone," he admitted, sort of getting a far away look in his eyes. Then he blinked and shook his head. "But that's over now," he hummed. "And if you haven't hit me yet, I doubt you're going to in the near future," he half joked. He was terrified that would happen....he knew it wouldn't, but old habits and thoughts still plagued him sometimes.

Ella nodded slowly, listening to Sage talk with a smile. It was only there to keep herself from looking as sad at his words as humanly possible, she certainly felt it, but figured that wouldn't exactly feel nice for him if she just looked..depressed. Out of his sentences, one seemed to snag her attention the most. "You lived on the streets? How did you wind up pretty much in the royal family then?" she asked, titling her head. Most of the people in the royal family that weren't originally in there were either cleaners, servants or very close friends of people working for the royal family, so it was interesting to her. "And..i'm sorry about my aunt and everything. I obviously won't start beating you black and blue at all, I could never" she said truthfully, rubbing grass off her legs.

Sage grunted lightly with a shrug in response to her comment, moving to sit up next to her. "They sort of just snagged me one day," he admitted. "Grabbed me off the streets...I barely had enough time to tell dad I'd pay him if he took care of Lizzie before they dragged me off," he snorted. "Dressed me up all immodest and all, and she took over from there " he shrugged again after that. "they said I should be grateful. I was in the castle and being paid." He shook his head slightly and huffed out a breath. He'd barely been paid at all ...and it definitely wasn't worth it. "And if I didn't do my job or if she ever got tired of me, I'd be hung because I knew too much. Even though I was never allowed out of the room," he added with a twinge of annoyance. Though, at her another comment he smiled and patted her leg before laying down on his back. "I know," he hummed.
